Local MPs all the way to the Australian prime minister have expressed their condolences after a bus carrying guests from a wedding in Australia’s Hunter Valley wine area collapsed Sunday evening, ki!!ing at least 10 people in one of the country’s deadliest bus accidents.
Authorities said another 25 individuals had been brought to hospitals.
Police said the bus’s 58-year-old driver was arrested and charged with ten counts of dangerous driving resulting in deἀth and negligent driving resulting in deἀth.
After the police picked him up from the hospital, he was taken to get checked up. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to make an appearance in court.
Superintendent of Police in New South Wales Tracy Chapman said that emergency personnel arrived at the crash scene at 11.30 p.m. local time on Sunday to discover a “confronting and very traumatic scene.”
The bus toppled near a roundabout that leads to an expressway through the scenic Hunter Valley wine region.
The causes of the crash are still being looked into.
As of Monday morning, “we are still trying to identify all of the people on the bus,” Chapman added. She wouldn’t say how old the passengers were, but she did say no kids were on board.
The people on the bus were on their way to Singleton, a town approximately 20 miles away, for the night after attending a wedding at the famed winery and venue Wandin Estate on Sunday.
“All of us know the joy of going to a wedding, a chance to celebrate dear friends and family. They are some of the happiest times that you can have,” On Monday, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made the following statement. “For a joyous day like that in a beautiful place to end with such terrible loss of life and injury is so cruel and so sad and so unfair.”
He said he would help the victims and their loved ones.
An Australian legislator named Keith Wolahan tweeted that the bride and groom grew up in the Melbourne suburb of Warrandyte and were active members of the local cricket, soccer, and netball clubs. It wasn’t apparent if they were on the bus or not.
The horrific bus crash in the Hunter Valley is simply devastating. The bride and groom grew up in Warrandyte, playing for our local cricket, football, and netball clubs. Many of the guests had made the trip to share what should have been the most special of days. pic.twitter.com/Ao8WiCMkXz

The vineyard advertises itself as providing an “unrivaled” experience with its “perfect blend of Hunter beauty, fragrant settings, seasonal local cuisine, the finest wines,” all described on the site.
A message seeking comment was met with silence from the winery. In an Instagram post, Wandin Estate expressed its sadness, writing, “deeply saddened to hear of the bus crash overnight that has claimed the lives of some of our guests.” The company expressed “heartfelt condolences” to the victims’ loved ones.
Local politician Clayton Barr said the incident site was on a “well-lit,” “good road surface,” and “low-speed limit” road.
“It’s just a reminder of how fragile our lives are when we’re out on the road really,” he said to Australia’s Nine television network.
