A series of free public performances will be part of the Marshall University School of Music’s 54th Annual Winter Jazz Festival, which runs from February 16–18.
The festival will include local, regional, and national jazz artists, including Dr. Joseph Jefferson, a graduate of West Virginia University who is currently Southeast Missouri State University’s director of jazz studies.
On Thursday, February 16, at 7:30 p.m., College Night, featuring jazz ensembles from Marshall and WVU, starts the festival. The Joseph Jefferson Quartet takes the stage after the Jewel City Jazz Orchestra on Friday, Feb. 17. The Thundering Herd All-Star Jazz Ensemble, a group of some of the most brilliant high school jazz musicians in the area, performs at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Marshall University Jazz Ensemble I, which includes Jefferson, will come after them.
