Sonya Eddy passed away. She was best known for her long tenure as Epiphany Johnson, the chief nurse at ABC’s General Hospital, among dozens of other roles.
Eddy’s demise was confirmed on Instagram by Octavia Spencer. Spencer only stated that Johnson passed away on Monday without providing any other information. It was 1955 when she was born.
Sonya Eddy began appearing on General Hospital in 2006 in the role of Epiphany Johnson, the stern head nurse and mother of the late Stan Johnson, who worked for Sonny Corinthos and Jason Morgan in their mob organization. Stan Johnson was a member of the group. She made 543 appearances; her most recent one was in the episode from November 25, 2020. From 2007 to 2008, she participated in the spinoff General Hospital: Night Shift as a regular cast member.

General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini posted on Twitter, “I am heartbroken by the death of the excellent Sonya Eddy. I genuinely adored her as a friend in addition to an actress. The nurse’s station hub’s lighting will now be a little darker, but the performance and our set will continue to be inspired by her.
He continued, “We express our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and fans on behalf of the entire GH cast and crew. She is greatly missed. Eddy’s “smile could light a reactor,” wrote General Hospital’s Jon Lindstrom on Twitter.
The few times we collaborated were enjoyable, but Lindstrom remarked, “I loved the moments we would talk about life, meditation, and acting.” She was a gift, and already we are missing her. My condolences to her family.
In 1990, Sonya Eddy made her stage debut in Zora Is My Name, which marked the start of her acting career. Other theatre roles include Bloody Mary in South Pacific, The Comedy of Errors, The Witch, and Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim.
Before her time on General Hospital, Sonya Eddy made appearances in a variety of TV shows, including the CBS drama Joan of Arcadia, Married… with Children, The Drew Carey Show, Murphy Brown, Martin, Saved By The Bell: The New Class, Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Glee, Mike & Molly, 2 Broke Girls, The Middle, Mom, Castle, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, among many others. Her most recent credits include Fresh Off The Boat, PEN15, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and Apple’s The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.

A few roles she has played in films are Wanda in Pee-Big Wee’s Holiday and Hanna in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, in addition to Year of the Dog, Lost In Plainview, and Bad News Bears.

Actress Sonya Eddy from General Hospital passed away in the middle of December after contracting an illness following surgery.
The beloved 55-year-old actress, who starred in more than 500 episodes of General Hospiovere of 15 years and can be seen playing head nurse Epiphany Johnson in the clip below, passed away on December 19; now, her friend Tyler Ford has revealed how the soap star became ill and returned to the hospital on December 15 after being sent home four days earlier.
She was then diagnosed with the infection, and regrettably, she was put on life support before passing unexpectedly on Monday night, according to Tyler, who spoke to TMZ.
