Delta Flight In Snow At MSP Airport: Tuesday night’s winter storm woes at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport came to a head when a Delta Air Lines Inc. flight went off a taxiway after landing and got trapped in the snow.
According to a statement from Delta, none of the 147 passengers and crew on board the flight from Mexico’s San Jose del Cabo were hurt, and everyone was safely evacuated. According to the travel website The Thrifty Traveler, the plane was released roughly three hours after becoming stranded at 6:40 p.m.
In response to icy conditions, MSP airport also ordered its runways closed later Tuesday evening. According to the Star Tribune, one of the runways reopened around 9:15 p.m.
Throughout the day, there were roughly five inches of snow at the airport, and there were times when it was quite difficult to see. According to FlightAware, more than 200 arriving or leaving flights were canceled on Tuesday, the highest of any American airport. According to JetTip, at least 40 incoming flights were diverted last night, most of them to other Midwest airports. The majority of these flights eventually arrived at MSP later in the evening.
More than 100 flights into or out of MSP have been canceled as of this morning due to the forecast for another wave of snow.
