The Addams Family’s first cinematic adaptation’s Wednesday Addams, was portrayed by actor Lisa Loring, who passed away at the age of 64 after suffering a stroke.
According to her daughter, Loring passed away on Saturday night in the hospital while being attended by family.
“She went peacefully with both her daughters holding her hands,” she said.
Loring had “suffered a huge stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure,” the novelist Laurie Jacobson posted on Facebook. Loring had been on life support for three days before her family decided to turn it off over the weekend.
Jacobson paid tribute to Loring’s “legacy in the world of entertainment,” writing: “She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams.”

At age five, Loring took on the role of Wednesday Addams in the first adaptation of Charles Addams’ New Yorker cartoons, which ran from 1964 to 1966.
Her portrayal of the macabre Addams daughter, complete with her gothic streak and trademark pigtails, resonated through film and television and significantly impacted subsequent accounts of the character.
A recent Netflix adaptation starring Jenna Ortega spawned a viral dance inspired by Loring’s angular moves from the original series. Ortega thanked Loring when the dance gained traction online.
Lisa Ann DeCinces, who would later become Loring, was born in the Marshall Islands in 1958 and eventually moved with her mother to Hawaii and Los Angeles. She started modeling at three years old and received her first television job in the medical drama Dr. Kildare.
Following her success as Wednesday Addams, she went on to star in the sitcom The Pruitts of Southampton and the spy drama The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. before landing a regular part on the venerable daytime program As the World Turns.
In the late 1980s, she also appeared in various slashers, such as Blood Frenzy, Iced, and Savage Harbor.
She worked as a makeup artist during this time on the production of the adult movie Traci’s Big Trick, where she also met Jerry Butler, the actor who plays Traci, her third husband.
Her marriage to Butler attracted much media attention, and the two engaged in many public fights over Butler’s continued work in the adult film industry at Loring’s request. In the end, they got divorced in 1992.
Her daughters Marianne and Vanessa, as well as her grandsons Charles and Emiliana, survive Loring.
