After receiving four awards from the Recording Academy during the 2023 ceremonies, Beyoncé surpassed the previous record of 32 for the most Grammy victories.
She won the prize for best dance/electronic album for “Renaissance,” which gave her the boost she needed.
Unlike earlier in the CBS show, when she wasn’t present for the win that had her achieving a tie, when “Cuff It” won best R&B song and gave her win number 31, Beyoncé was present at the arena to accept this one.
A little more than two hours into the main program, she broke the record and added, “I’m trying not to be too emotional, and I’m trying to receive this night simply.”
“I want to give God praise for guarding me. I want to express gratitude to my absent but present-in-spirit uncle Johnny.
Before adding, “I’d like to thank the queer community for your affection and for developing this genre,” she expressed gratitude to her parents, spouse, and three kids.
How Are Beyoncé And Jay-z Tied For The Most Grammy Nominations Of All-time?
She chose two more prizes during the prime-time program after receiving two at the afternoon’s non-televised Premiere ceremony. She is still up for nominations in three more categories.
There were many jokes when she won in absentia at the halfway point of the “Cuff It” prime-time program.
Halfway through the show, the R&B song award was given out without the honoree present. Host Trevor Noah joked about L.A. traffic and stated, “Beyoncé is on her way.”
The-Dream, a co-writer and co-producer approached the microphone and cracked a joke about “C.P. time,” which was interrupted as it was broadcast over the air. On-the-track musician Nile Rodgers also made a brief unbleeped speech at the podium.

Beyoncé received two honors during the pre-telecast ceremony for “Break My Soul,” a dance/electronic song, and “Plastic Off the Sofa,” a traditional R&B piece (all of which are from her “Renaissance” album).
Even though Lizzo and Harry Styles won album and record of the year, respectively, on Sunday night, Beyoncé’s record-breaking status will not entirely appease supporters who believe she should have won by now.
Bonnie Raitt received Song of the Year, a prize she had only ever won once before while still a member of Destiny’s Child.
Georg Solti, a prominent player in classical music, held the record for the most Grammy awards, with 31 until the 2023 ceremony.
He set the record in 1997 when he won the award for best opera recording. The same year Solti passed away.
Beyonce took the lead in the 2023 nominations with nine, tying her and her husband Jay-Z for the most nominations in Grammy history with 88 each.
The total for Beyoncé includes her prior work with Destiny’s Child. She was the most decorated female performer in Grammy history going into Sunday’s ceremonies because of her 28 wins.
Jay is a 24-time Grammy winner. Before 2023, he held the record for receiving the most nominations, with 83.
This year, along with her R&B and general-field accolades, saw Beyoncé’s debut nominations in the dance/electronic categories.
Instead of competing for the best R&B album, her “Renaissance” release was nominated for best dance/electronic album.
Jay-Z, listed as a songwriter on “Renaissance,” is up for both albums of the year and song of the year awards with Beyoncé.
He is also eligible for the music of the year, rap song, and performance for participating in DJ Khaled’s “God Did.”
If Jay-Z wins only one Grammy during the evening program, he will become the rapper with the most Grammy victories ever.
With 24 victories before this year, he and Kanye West shared the record heading into the 2023 ceremony.
