Top NFL draft prospect Jalen Carter is seen on bodycam video speaking with police in Athens, Georgia, following the January automobile accident that claimed the lives of Devin Willock, a teammate from Georgia, and Chandler LeCroy, a team employee.
“Were you racing to Waffle House?” an officer asked while questioning Carter. “Because I can tell you right now by looking at the damage on that car they were moving.”
Carter told the responding authorities, “I wasn’t racing.”
As part of his plea agreement, Carter, who later entered a no-contest plea to minor racing and reckless driving charges, will not serve jail time.
The 21-year-old defensive tackle was sentenced to a year of probation, a $1,000 fine, 80 hours of community service, and completion of a defensive driving course approved by the state.
On March 1, when Carter was at the NFL Scouting Combine, police filed arrest warrants for him on charges of racing and careless driving.

Before taking a flight back to Indianapolis, Carter departed the combine to report himself in.
According to Athens police, LeCroy operated a Ford Expedition at 104 mph before the collision and had a.197 blood alcohol content.
“I feel like he is trying to get something out of this or something,” Carter said in the video, answering his phone while being questioned by police.
“I’m not trying to get anything out of you,” the questioning officer said. “I am just trying to discover how this happened and what you saw of it.”
According to the attending officer, all accident participants were taken to the hospital.
The collision also resulted in minor injuries for offensive lineman Warren McClendon, who will participate in the NFL Draft in April.
Numerous people speculate when Carter will be selected in the draft due to his alleged role in the collision and his lackluster performance at Pro Day.
For a long time, it was assumed that Carter would go in the first five picks of the draft.
