Ground Crew Worker Killed In Accident At Montgomery Airport: According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the worker was ingested into the engine as the aircraft was parked at the gate.
Federal officials have looked into the death of an airline employee at the Montgomery Regional Airport on Saturday afternoon.
Officials claim that an American Airlines ground crew member on a ramp was engaged in the incident.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the accident occurred when American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked at roughly 2:20 p.m.
The flight was slated to leave for Dallas-Fort Worth on Saturday afternoon.
The airport shut down due to the canceled flight. However, operations started up again at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. On its website, the airport posted a statement regarding the incident. Passengers booked on that aircraft can check in luggage.
“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines,” Wade A. Davis, executive director of Montgomery Regional Airport, said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
The airport also posted a statement expressing sympathy to the worker’s family on social media. The identity of the person and the specifics of their passing have not been made public. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are conducting an investigation.
