Mattapan Shooting: After a shooting left a father of two dead, the Boston Police Department spent New Year’s Day looking into the neighborhood of 1601 Blue Hill Avenue. It took place after a New Year’s Eve event. To begin 2023, a family is now in mourning.
“Because this person was a member of my extended family, I’m deeply shaken,” said Reverend Kevin Peterson.
According to Peterson, the organization’s founder, the victim is Jymall Cox, 33. His son’s cousin is Cox.
“I had an opportunity to speak with the victim’s mother about an hour ago, and she can’t believe her son is dead,” said Rev. Peterson.
On January 1, 2023, police arrived in the Blue Hill Ave. vicinity at around 5:56 a.m. Cox was discovered there and was declared dead on the spot.
“He leaves behind a young daughter and child who must remember their father as murdered,” said Peterson.
A second man was shot, but his wounds were not life-threatening.
The dispute seems to have started over a spilled drink. The Reverend told WBZ. While he has already spoken out against the city’s violence, he believes things must change in 2023. Peterson said that starting the new year with death and violence is depressing.
Sheara Bryant, a resident of Mattapan, concurs with that opinion. Bryant said this used to be a clean, lovely area, but things are getting much worse.
She claims that the violence is out of control. Bryant continued, “Today, I felt unsafe.
The case has not resulted in any arrests. With witnesses and security cameras in the vicinity, the Rev. Peterson is optimistic that the family will receive justice. “We’re hoping this can be a case that’s easily solved,” Peterson said.
The Boston Police Department is now investigating the facts and circumstances.
