This week, a Richmond County jury convicted the culprit in Tony Sanford’s shooting death in 2019.

Kwadere Barno, 35, of Hephzibah, was found guilty of three distinct firearm possession offenses, felony murder, aggravated assault, and malice murder. Barno received a 50-year prison term for the different crimes and a life sentence without the possibility of release.

On May 25, 2019, a road rage incident led to the shooting.

Inadvertently sideswiping Barno’s car was Sanford, 59, of Augusta, according to a press statement from Augusta District Attorney Jared T. Williams.

According to Williams, “the irate defendant got out and engaged in a verbal dispute before repeatedly firing into the victim’s vehicle.”
