Bette Midler and the Cast of ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Discuss the Long-awaited Sequel: ‘It Was Like a Dream Come True.’ The people who made Hocus Pocus 2 didn’t have a hard time getting Bette Midler to do a sequel to her popular witch comedy from 1993. In fact, Midler had been pushing for a sequel for a long time, the 76-year-old Hollywood star said Wednesday at a digital press conference for the launch of Disney+.

“This was a dream come true,” said Midler, who was there with her Sanderson sister Kathy Najimy, the director Anne Fletcher, producers Adam Shankman and Lynn Harris, and co-stars Doug Jones, Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, and Lilia Buckingham. Sarah Jessica Parker, the third Sanderson sister, was supposed to be at the press conference, but she didn’t.

“When I realized that [Hocus Pocus] was a hit, I asked my agent and other people, ‘Don’t you think they would want a sequel?’ This happened many years ago. About 15 years ago, this happened. Same kind of thing. Now we’re here.” Bette Midler and the Cast of ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Discuss the Long-awaited Sequel: ‘It Was Like a Dream Come True.’

Najimy, who is 65 years old, says that they are getting back together because of the lasting legacy of Hocus Pocus, which was a box office failure when it first came out but has become a cult classic in the years since.

“You make movies and move on to the next one, and it’s always a surprise how the audience reacts,” she said. “I think there was something in this movie, like in The Wizard of Oz, where that generation shows it to their kids, and those kids show it to their kids… So it becomes a part of the fabric of the family’s history.”

The Story Continues

In Hocus Pocus 2, Becca (Peak), Cassie (Buckingham), and Izzy (Escobedo) are three new high school students who must work together to stop the Sanderson sisters when they come back to Salem to get revenge for being kicked out 29 years ago.

“It was a big change in my life, but it was the best thing I could have asked for,” said Buckingham (Crown Lake), who was supposed to start college two weeks after she got the job. “Well, I worked with famous people. And got so much out of it.” Midler, who was there, talked about how the Sanderson sisters have helped her grow up as a woman.

The two-time Oscar nominee said, “There’s so much going on in this world that we didn’t understand until maybe the last 25, 30, or 50 years.” “Things have changed for women, but they haven’t changed fast enough. And I think that, in a weird way, these three characters are perfect for women. First, they’re hilarious, which women aren’t supposed to be or aren’t allowed to be.

And they love each other very much… They go through a wide range of feelings. In a funny way, I think their relationship is solid. So, a bond, friendship, or sisterhood is essential whenever women are together. And this movie kind of ties it all together.” Please let your friends know if you find this interesting.
