Celine Dion Fans Protest Outside Rolling Stone: The singer’s supporters are displaying their allegiance to her significantly.
Fans protested the magazine’s omission of the “My Heart Will Go On” singer from their new list of the “200 Greatest Singers of All Time” outside the Rolling Stone office in New York City on Friday.
In the video, fans can be seen holding signs which read: “Justice for Celine,” “It’s all coming back to you now,” “Rolling Stone is stoned,” and “Celine is not alone Anymore.”
The Redheads, a Canadian fan group for Celine Dion, is said to be where the fans are from. The ensemble made the journey from the north to support the Grammy Award-winning musician.
The list was first released on January 1 and sparked much debate.
“Anyone who writes for a music publication and neglects to not only mention Celine Dion but also leave her out of the Top 5 greatest singers has no right doing so. There is a lot of contempt on this list for singers, “a member of social media wrote.
“A team and important contributors created this new list, including 100 years of pop music as an ongoing global conversation,” Rolling Stone stated at the top of its article. The selection criteria included “originality, influence, the breadth of an artist’s musical legacy, and the depth of an artist’s library.”
Before you scroll (and comment), remember that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List, the magazine advised readers.
They stated, “Talent is remarkable; genius is transcendent.” “Yes, many of the residents of this city were endowed at birth with enormous pipes, perfect pitch, and limitless range. Others use instruments that are rougher, weirder, or more sensitive.”
The outlet’s decision to exclude Dion instantly caused outrage on Twitter, with one reader writing, “Look, it’s fair to say that Celine Dion’s music isn’t your style. It’s fair to claim that Celine’s songs are no longer relevant in the Billie Eilish generation of today. But to claim that Celine Dion isn’t one of the best singers of all time is absurd.”
One person called Dion “the best voice technician of all time” and said it was “borderline traitorous” to leave her off the list. One more said: “If the vocal ability is the only standard, then Celine Dion’s absence would be objectively erroneous and have no bearing on taste. You would still be wrong if we were to judge by sound. As a result, certain ranking, inclusion, and removal decisions are puzzling.”
Billie Eilish, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Wanda Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Christina Aguilera, Bono, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Ozzy Osbourne, and other artists are among the 200 performers deemed deserving of the title by Rolling Stone.
Dion has not yet responded to the list, but the singer recently shared a collection of clips of “My Heart Will Go On” performances from the past.
Dion disclosed in a moving video that she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in December 2022. According to Dion, SPS “affects something like one in a million people,” an incurable neurological condition.
“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this has been causing all of the spasms I’ve been having,” Dion said in her video. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the syndrome is “an uncommon central nervous system illness that causes autoimmune movement (the brain and spinal cord). People with this ailment first notice a tightening of their trunk muscles, which is gradually followed by the emergence of stiffness and rigidity in the legs and other body muscles.”
Dion announced that she could not complete her planned February European tour. As for “what (she) love(s) to do) the most,” she added that she is “working with a sports medicine therapist every day to bring back (her) strength and my ability to perform again.” Keep yourself updated with all the latest news from our website Newswatchlist.com and get all the recent updates.
