CS: GO has maintained its appeal despite being over ten years old and Counter-Strike itself over 22 years old. It reached a new peak player count of 1.8 million as of April 2023, with approximately 30 million active users.
However, Valve has been working on Counter-Strike 2, which uses the new Source 2 engine and is now prepared for release, knowing that the game is quickly losing its appeal.
The limited-test beta for Counter-Strike 2 went live in March, but it was much more restricted than anyone had anticipated. According to estimates, 0.2% of CS: GO players currently have access to CS2, and many are professional or well-known community members.
Is There A Counter-Strike 2 Release Date?
According to Valve, Counter-Strike 2 will be available in the summer of 2023. According to this, the release would occur between June 30 and September 30.
After data miners discovered that CS: GO was tagged as “out of scope” for new reports beginning that day, some rumours speculated that CS2 would be released on June 14.
Mirage was added as a map in a recent update for the limited-test build made available on June 6. It is improbable that this testing period will last just a week.
Based on all our information, our best guess is that CS2 will be released in August. It would be a fun easter egg if CS2 debuted on August 21st, 2023, the same day CS: GO did in 2012.
Valve may need to consider the esports schedule when deciding on a release date. There are still a few significant CS: GO events, such as BLAST Fall Groups in July.
Data miner and leaker Aquarius has hypothesized that Valve might not be overly concerned with stopping these events because a CS: GO depot might still be available if necessary.
What’s Inside CS2?
The sole map still accessible in the limited-test beta version of CS2 is Mirage, which replaced Dust2. There are also just a few modes and features (for instance, case openings and casual matches are not supported).
Of course, we can anticipate a much more comprehensive selection of maps, modes, and features upon the official release.

CS2 has given the following tweet:

To CS2, all skins and other stuff will likewise smoothly cross over. Despite this, several skin fans have found in the test beta that there are a lot of glitches or inconsistencies between the way some skins appear in CS: GO and CS2.
Though further cosmetic upgrades from Valve may be coming soon, don’t be too shocked if your AK-47 or knife skin initially seems strange.

Pro players should quickly switch to CS2, and maybe some of the first formal events will occur later in the year.
The following Counter-Strike Major will be contested on CS2, and PGL will host it in Copenhagen in March 2023.
