Daniel Sanchez Murder Suicide: A man upset about his ex-new girlfriend’s relationship shot and killed her, her sister, and her husband early on Tuesday morning before taking his own life, according to authorities. This happened just hours after the man was let out of jail.
Residents of the 400-space mobile home development where the killing occurred, 35 miles northwest of Denver, were appalled and startled by the triple murder and suicide.
“It just shows you that it can happen anywhere,” said Weld County Sheriff John Cooke. “Domestic violence knows no boundaries.”
Before shooting himself about 4 a.m., Daniel Sanchez, 31, killed his ex-girlfriend Beatriz Cintora-Silva, 25, her sister, 22, and her sister’s husband, 29. As of Tuesday, Cooke.
Cooke claimed Sanchez fired a.45-caliber Glock handgun into himself in the head before shooting out the glass back door of the house, the three victims, and himself. Before being shot, Cintora-Silva dialed 911 and provided her address, according to Cooke.
Six hours ago, Sanchez was let out of jail. He was detained on Sunday, according to Cintora-Silva, who said he assaulted her, seized her phone, and then threatened to text her new partner.
According to a police affidavit describing his arrest, Sanchez pursued Cintora-Silva to her sister’s house following their Thanksgiving separation, sitting outside in his truck to see her lights turn off at night. According to the police, Sanchez held Cintora-Silva captive for many hours on Saturday in exchange for details about her recent romance.
Police claimed in a report about the incident from the previous Saturday that while Sanchez was forcing Cintora-Silva to ride in his car against her choice, he called her offensive names. “Daniel would then apologize to Beatriz and declare his love for her. Beatriz accepted Daniel’s offer to take her to a hotel where he could make love to her.”
Sanchez eventually freed Cintora-Silva; she reported the incident but declined additional security, according to the police. After being detained for one night following his arrest on Sunday afternoon, Sanchez was freed at 10 p.m. on Monday after posting a $10,000 bond.
Cooke claimed that Cintora-Silva was informed by law enforcement when Sanchez was let out of custody and that investigators are trying to piece together his final moments, including how and where he obtained the firearm.
Around 4 a.m., Cintora-neighbors Silva’s reported hearing “pop, pop, pop” repeated gunshots coming from the cream trailer, and a woman inside called 911 while yelling the address.
“The dispatcher heard ‘No, no, no,’ and then gunshots,” said sheriff’s spokesman Tim Schwartz. “A male party then picks up the phone and says he will kill himself. The dispatcher hears another gunshot.”
After rushing to the neighborhood, deputies and the SWAT squad discovered the four bodies. Wednesday is the day for autopsies, according to Cooke.
Residents of the community, a permanent mobile home park, where the shooting took place stated they were startled to see such violence in the relatively rural location.
“Why can’t people work things out without killing each other?” asked neighbor Baldemar Barrera, 62. “It’s crazy.”
