Germany’s First Full Cargo of LNG Arrives In Wilhelmshaven: On December 19, Tsakos Energy Navigation’s 170,000-m3 LNG carrier Maria Energy transported the historic cargo from Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility on the US Gulf Coast. The Liberia-flagged Maria Energy was wholly loaded with roughly 97,147,000 m3 of natural gas when it was built in 2016.
The delivery of the first full LNG cargo to the Uniper terminal in Wilhelmshaven, according to Uniper Chief Commercial Officer Niek den Hollander, is “a monument to the solid relationship between Uniper, Venture Global, and Tsakos Energy Navigation.”
“The use of LNG as a dependable energy source is vital for the security of supply for Germany and Europe,” Mr. den Hollander continued. By using the Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel Regas Terminals to deliver more LNG to the European market, particularly Germany, we are dedicated to doing our share.
According to Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel, the first LNG cargo brought to Germany was made possible by the “rapid action” of Uniper and the German government in “building the infrastructure needed to make this historic day feasible.” “As strategic partners, we look forward to supplying our friends with the long-term security of energy supply through the continuous delivery of clean and dependable US LNG,” Mr. Sabel concluded.
The Wilhelmshaven terminal will be commissioned due to the LNG cargo carried on board Maria Energy on December 17, 2022. The Wilhelmshaven port is anticipated to open for business in mid-January 2023.
The Höegh Esperanza floating storage and regasification unit, with an annual throughput capacity of 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, is an essential part of the Uniper LNG terminal.
