Hunter Scheel Obituary: He Died At The Age of 23!

On April 8, 2023, Hunter Timothy Scheel, 23, of Hillsdale, Wisconsin, passed away.

In Barron, Wisconsin, on June 10, 1999, Hunter was born to Jessica (Pierce) Janota and Wayne Scheel.

In Prairie Farm, Wisconsin, where he went to school, he was a standout in track and field, competing in the state meet and shattering the school record for the 3200-meter sprint. In 2017, he received his diploma from Prairie Farm High School.

Hunter joined the Army National Guard and still served as a CPL on active duty. He did a tour in Afghanistan in 2019–2020, which also led him to Kuwait.

His awards include the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.

Hunter attained his long-held desire by enrolling at and finishing the Police Recruit Academy at Rice Lake’s Northwoods Technical College in 2022.

He joined the Cameron Police Department in 2022 as a part-time officer and advanced full-time in January 2023. Hunter loved the tranquility of the woods and was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman.

He participated in the Rice Lake Men’s Hockey League on Sunday evenings. Collecting sap and preparing maple syrup with his Grandpa Bear was a valued memory in his life.

He was an “old soul” and appreciated the simplicity of life. Everyone who knew him was extremely lucky and cherished him.

Grandfathers David Zwernik, and Timothy Scheel, Great Grandparents Jane and Leon McDowell predeceased Hunter.

His parents, Wayne Scheel (Amber Shipley) of Ridgeland and Jessica (Nick) Janota of Hillsdale, survive him with love. Sisters: Emily, Darla, and Ella Shipley of Ridgeland; Audrey Scheel (Dawson Jackson) of Ridgeland; Haylee and Briella Janota of Hillsdale; Leon McDowell of Colfax and Colter Shipley of Ridgeland are brothers.

Rock Huiras (Zoe) & Joe Janota, Julie Zwernik, Steve & Cindy Jonas, Richard & Joyce Pierce, Delores Nevin and Roberta Pierce, great grandparents His future fiancée, Camryn Gosdeck, his devoted dog, Otis, as well as numerous additional Cousins, Relatives, and Friends.

Uncles & Aunts: Lucas (Gwen) Pierce, Steven Jonas (Whitney), Shammy (Logan) Eichler, Sam Zwernik, Andy Janota, Chad & Todd Miller.

On April 15, a Public Funeral Service will be placed at Cameron High School, officiated by Police Chaplain Cody Kargus. From the time of visitation at 9:00 am till the conclusion of the service at 1:00 pm.

Following the service outside the high school, police honors will immediately occur. Later, a private family burial will appear in the Greenwood Cemetery in Minong, Wisconsin.
