Is Sid Dead: The British secret service agents in “Slow Horses” are a gang of disgraced individuals transferred to the Slough House branch. The agents do several incredibly mediocre tasks under the direction of their irate employer, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). With Sid Baker standing out, most agents are pleased with their lack of possibilities for the future.
In the first episode, the resourceful young agent demonstrates her mettle and occasionally seems to impress Jackson Lamb. She rapidly encounters some regrettable events, though, leaving her fate uncertain. So, is Sid Baker still alive or dead? Let’s review what we do know. Spoilers follow.
Is Sid Baker Dead or Alive?
Jackson Lamb seems only to be able to stand Sidonie “Sid” Baker, possibly the most competent Slough House agent. River Cartwright frequently feels envious of Sid’s (relatively) more glamorous projects because he is equally ambitious but doesn’t receive the same favor from their gruff boss.
However, Sid is shot by an unauthorized intruder as the two are on a scouting expedition and following a right-wing journalist named Robert Hobden. The head damage is severe, and Sid is hospitalized and in a coma starting with the second episode.
When Diana Taverner, the chief of MI5, informs Jackson that Sid has passed away in episode 5, she drops a major bombshell. The former seems to imply that Sid died from her wounds, even though she doesn’t go into further detail. If Jackson may have favorites, Sid is his preferred Slough House agent. Thus, this is a significant setback for him. Or at least Diana believes that.
Jackson doesn’t seem overly upset by the news of Sid’s passing, which is surprising. This could be because he doesn’t want to come across as helpless during his confrontation with Diana. It might also imply that he believes the head of MI5 is playing a ruse on him.
The timing of Diana’s announcement of Sid’s passing is critical in this case because she just threatened to oust all of Jackson’s operatives from Slough House by offering them jobs at the MI5 headquarters branch.
Diana makes Jackson feel helpless to coerce him into signing a false confession that would forgive her. Jackson, unfortunately, is not as easily fooled. It is also essential to consider the possibility that Sid has passed away. After all, her injuries are fatal, and there has been no word that her health is improving. She is immobilized, even when River checks in on Sid in episode 4.
She is alive when River visits her, which is pretty exciting and informative. The show’s storyline is highly condensed. Thus, there hasn’t been much time (maybe an hour or two) between River first seeing Sid alive and Diana telling River that the injured spy is dead. This further suggests that Diana is probably lying regarding Sid’s future.
Sid is most likely still alive, and there are several explanations for this. Jackson does care for his agents while trying to hide it, and he would react more violently if Sid, his favorite Slough House agent, were genuinely dead. Second, Sid was last seen by River when he was still alive.
Lastly, Sid has been assigned to Slough House to watch over Jackson, making her likely one of the few individuals who genuinely knows Jackson’s past and why he was sent to Slough House in the first place. It is more likely that Sid is alive and will emerge in the plot at some time as she appears to occupy a vital role in it.
The Death Scene
Sid’s valiant attempts to bring down Victor’s drug-trafficking operation from within ultimately resulted in what seems to be his demise. These attempts appear to have led to Sid’s demise. The young man had been tirelessly working for Victor for several weeks to gather enough proof to prosecute the adult.
Sid struck it rich after partnering with James Nightingale when he captured Victor taking ownership of the atrocities he had committed. Sadly, heroin addict Ollie Morgan informed Victor of his employee’s treachery before Sid could present this and the rest of the evidence to the police. Victor received the information from Ollie Morgan in exchange for another hit. Sid was unable to deliver the proof to the authorities.
In the parking lot of The Dog, Sid was fatally stabbed by a furious Victor, who then fled the scene. When Ste met with Sid, it seemed he was in his final moments, the battered figure struggling mightily to hold on.
