Is Tupac Mom Still Alive: Afeni Shakur Davis, the late rapper Tupac Shakur’s mother, passed away on Monday night at the age of 69, according to a notification from the Marin County Sheriff’s office on Tuesday morning.

The Sheriff’s Coroners Office will oversee the inquiry to ascertain the “precise cause & manner of Afeni Shakur’s death,” according to a series of subsequent tweets. After the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a suspected cardiac arrest at Shakur Davis’ residence at about 9:30 p.m., Davis passed away at her home in northern California.

Shakur, Alice Faye Williams, was a well-known political activist and a former Black Panther party member. She was born on January 10, 1947, in Lumberton, North Carolina. She and many other Black Panthers were detained in April 1969 and accused of several charges of conspiring to bomb New York police stations and other public locations.

She was expecting a child at the time of her criminal trial, and on June 16, 1971, she gave birth to Tupac Amaru Shakur. Afeni got sober in the early 1990s and reconciled with Tupac after dealing with a drug issue in the 1980s that caused an estrangement from the burgeoning rapper. After her son Tupac was slain in a still-unsolved drive-by shooting in 1996, Afeni took on the executor of his estate, establishing the Tupac Amaru Foundation for the Arts charity and Amaru Entertainment to publish her son’s posthumous recordings. Additionally, she played a significant role in the 2014 Broadway debut of the musical Holler If Ya Hear Me.

Afeni served as executive producer of the upcoming biographical drama All Eyez on Me, which is based on her son’s life and stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. The movie’s production firm, Morgan Creek, stated to The Hollywood Reporter that read, “We will mourn her loss.” “We were utterly unprepared for her passing. Our thoughts are with her family and close friends. The filming of All Eyez on Me recently ended. There is no definite date for release.

On the evening of September 7, 1996, Shakur traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, to celebrate the birthday of his business associate Tracy Danielle Robinson. He also joined Suge Knight at the M.G.M. Grand to watch the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson boxing battle. Afterward, a group member noticed Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson in the lobby. The man claimed Anderson recently attempted to grab his neck chain with a Death Row Records medallion in a mall. The subsequent assault on Anderson is captured on the hotel’s security footage. As part of a giant convoy, Shakur soon stopped by his hotel room before driving with Knight to his Death Row nightclub, Club 662.

Police officers on bicycles stopped the automobile on Las Vegas Boulevard at around 11 p.m. for its loud music and plate-less exterior. After the plates were discovered in the trunk, the car was let go without receiving a ticket. A white, four-door, late-model Cadillac sedan drew up to the passenger side at a stoplight at around 11:15 p.m., and one of the occupants fired into the vehicle quickly. Shakur was shot four times: twice in the chest, twice in the arm, once in the thigh, and once in the right lung. Knight’s head received shards. Shakur’s bodyguard Frank Alexander wasn’t in the vehicle at the time. He would claim that Kidada Jones, Shakur’s girlfriend, had requested him to drive her automobile.

Shakur was brought to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he was put on life support and given a heavy dose of medication. On the afternoon of September 13, 1996, in the intensive care unit, Shakur passed away from an internal hemorrhage. At 4:03 p.m., he was pronounced deceased. The official causes of death are numerous gunshot wounds coupled with cardiopulmonary arrest and breathing failure. The following day, Shakur’s body was burned. Members of the Outlawz mixed part of his body’s ashes with marijuana before smoking them, remembering a line from his song “Black Jesus.”

After a year of research, investigative journalist Chuck Philips revealed in the Los Angeles Times in 2002 that Anderson, a Southside Compton Crip, had fired the fatal shots after being attacked by Suge and Shakur’s group at the M.G.M. Hotel following the boxing match. Still, Las Vegas police had only spoken to him once, briefly, before he was killed in a separate shooting. Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace and other members of the criminal underground in New York City are also allegedly involved, according to Philips’ 2002 piece.

Wallace provided a verified alibi, while Anderson and Wallace denied involvement. The New York Times music critic John Leland deemed the evidence to be “inconclusive.” Through the Freedom of Information Act, the F.B.I. disclosed materials from their inquiry in 2011. These documents indicated an extortion plot by the Jewish Defense League that involved threatening Shakur and other rappers with death. Still, they did not reveal a direct link to his slaying.
