James Joseph Harbaugh (/hrb/; born December 23, 1963) is the current and 20th head football coach of the Michigan Wolverines and a former quarterback for the team. From 1983 to 1986, he was a football player for the University of Michigan. He was an NFL player for 14 years, from 1987 to 2000, spending the majority of that time with the Chicago Bears.
He led the San Diego Toreros (2004–2006), the Stanford Cardinal (2007–2010), and the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (2011–2014). Harbaugh returned to the University of Michigan football program in 2015.

In 1987, Jim was picked by the Chicago Bears and began his professional football career while playing for head coach Mike Ditka. However, he didn’t become the starting quarterback until the 1990 season. By 1991, he was the Bears’ unquestioned starter in every single regular season game. In 1992 and 1993, the Bears’ fortunes began to dramatically deteriorate.
After Ditka’s dismissal, Harbaugh quickly joined the Indianapolis Colts. He began his career with the Colts in 1994, and he enjoyed one of his best seasons during 1995, helping the team to the AFC Championship Game. After playing for the Chargers and the Ravens, Jim finished his career with the Lions and the Panthers.
