Johnny Depp At Met Gala: Amber Heard claims that her ex-husband Johnny Depp “stood [her] up” the same night she met Elon Musk at the 2016 Met Gala.
Heard, 36, claimed Depp, 58, “essentially stood me up on the red carpet” in May 2016 following their altercation at her 30th birthday party the previous month as the defamation trial between the two actors in Fairfax, Virginia continued on Monday.
Johnny missed a fitting because it was on the same day as my birthday celebration in Los Angeles, but Heard and she had planned to attend as Ralph Lauren’s guests. She said that because Depp’s crew wouldn’t get in touch with her, she “didn’t know” he wouldn’t attend the Johnny Depp At Met Gala.
So I ended up going alone,” the Aquaman 2 actress revealed from her position on the podium. As soon as we understood that Johnny had essentially stood me up on the red carpet, they cleared out Johnny’s place setting, and I was seated next to it.
Heard continued by saying that the red carpet was where she first met Musk, 50. She added that Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, “was with his mother,” Maye Musk, at the occasion, saying, “I didn’t remember [Elon] until we started talking and he reminded me we had met once before.”
Heard said, “He seemed like a wonderful gentleman.” “He was very kind. He took a seat at a nearby table, and that evening we started chatting and eventually became good friends.”
Previously, a Musk representative said that he and Heard split up in August 2017 and “didn’t begin dating until May 2016, and even then, just occasionally. It took some time before their connection turned passionate.”
Heard spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in December 2018, more than a year after the separation “Elon and I had a lovely relationship that was founded on our core principles, and we now have a lovely friendship. Intellectual pique, discussion, and a mutual passion for science. We just connected over several topics that reflect my inner self. He has my utmost regard.”
Heard and Depp met while filming The Rum Diary in 2011; they later got married in 2015. When Heard filed for a domestic violence restraining order against him in May 2016, claiming that he had abused her, they parted up. Depp refuted the allegations, and the former couple reached an out-of-court divorce agreement in August 2016.
Depp is suing Heard for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote about surviving domestic violence for The Washington Post, even though she did not use Depp’s name in the piece. The $50 million lawsuit was initially filed by the Pirates of the Caribbean actor in March 2019.

Johnny Depp has testified that his “objective is the truth” as he works to clear his name in the trial, which is being televised live by several sites. Depp has asserted numerous times under oath that he has never struck Heard or any woman.
Amber Heard addressed the jury after taking the stand, saying, “I have a hard time putting into words how awful this is. To sit here for weeks on end and relive everything is terrible.”
Depp’s widely publicized U.K. libel case against British tabloid The Sun for branding him a “wife-beater” back in November 2020 was unsuccessful. Heard testified to support the outlet’s statements, and the court upheld them as being “essentially true.” His effort to overturn the judgment was rejected in March 2021.
