Kelsea Ballerini is co-hosting the 2022 CMT Music Awards
Kelsea Ballerini will co-host the CMT (Country Music Television) Awards on Monday, April 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Variety reports that the awards event will make its CBS debut in 2022 after previously airing exclusively on cable. Ballerini will be hosting for the second year in a row; in 2020, she shared hosting duties with fellow country music artist Kane Brown (Brown was hosting for his second year at the time).
This year, Ballerini is presenting alongside the actor Anthony Mackie, who is probably best known for his roles in the Marvel Avengers films. Margaret Comeaux, Leslie Fram, and John Hamlin, the show’s executive producers, said in a statement, “We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to match one of the biggest names in country music with one of the world’s most thrilling superheroes to host our biggest CMT Music Awards ever.”
When put together, “Kelsea and Anthony deliver huge star power that transcends the fields of music, movies, and pop culture with a supersized fan following,” as one critic put it. Mackie isn’t the first actor to host the CMT Music Awards; normally, it’s a country music star. In addition to Sarah Hyland and Kristen Bell, other actresses who have presented the awards show include Pamela Anderson and Brittany Snow.
“We know this dynamic team is the perfect pairing to elevate our show to the next level as we reach our largest global audience ever live on CBS,” the executive producers said.
