On January 5, Kim Kardashian and her daughter North West appeared in a TikTok video where they danced to Taylor Swift, once more “breaking the internet.” The two display their hater-proof moves while lip-syncing Taylor Swift’s 2014 smash song “Shake It Off” in the TikTok video.
The mother-daughter team frequently uploads charming dancing videos to TikTok. Still, their choice of a Swift song is noteworthy given that Kim Kardashian and her estranged husband, Kanye West, have a relationship with the 11-time Grammy winner.
It ignited their famed feud when West interrupted Swift’s winning speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Years later, after they had reconciled, West rekindled their animosity by mentioning Swift in his song “Famous” from 2016 and asking, “I feel like Taylor and I might still have sex, why? I gave that b*tch notoriety.
Swift publicly disagreed with the song’s “b*tch” lyric and the music video’s nude representation of her. Still, Kardashian amplified the controversy when she released audio from a phone call between Swift and West in which Swift seemed to support the lyrics.
Swift stated the call was taped without her knowledge and that she would “very much like to be omitted from this narrative” at the moment. She also denied authoring the “b*tch” phrase.
The complete conversation was exposed in 2020, demonstrating that Swift had no prior knowledge of the “b*tch” lyric and had even expressed her discomfort to West about using the term. Swift responded to the leaked call by urging her fans to give to Feeding America, but at that time, she wanted to move on.
In February 2021, Kardashian announced her intention to divorce West, beginning a new chapter of drama and controversy involving the musician. The reality star adopting Swift may not be altogether shocking in light of this. When questioned about Swift’s best album in December 2021, Kardashian genuinely applauded it.
She said during an episode of the Honestly podcast, “I genuinely like a lot of her songs. They’re all adorable and catchy. In 2023, perhaps Kardashian and Swift will emerge as the new power couple in Hollywood.
