American professional basketball player Kyle Alexander Kuzma (born July 24, 1995) plays for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He represented the Utah Utes in college basketball, and as a junior in 2016–17, he was named to the Pac-12’s first-team all-conference.
Kuzma was chosen with the 27th overall choice in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft, and in 2018, while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Before moving to the Wizards in 2021, he won an NBA title in 2020 while playing for the Lakers.

Professional Career
Los Angeles Lakers (2017–2021)
The Brooklyn Nets selected Kuzma with the 27th overall choice in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on the draft day along with Brook Lopez for D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov. Kuzma was expected to go in the second round of the draft. He signed his rookie scale contract with the Lakers on July 3, 2017.
Kuzma led the team in points scored throughout the seven games he played for the Lakers in the 2017 NBA Summer League (starting in six of those games). He also established himself as a dependable presence. He was selected to the All-Summer League Second Team that year with averages of 21.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game.
After producing a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds in a 110-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in the championship game, he was also awarded the Summer League Championship Game MVP.
In his debut game as a starter on November 3, 2017, he defeated the Brooklyn Nets 124-112 while recording his first double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. In a 122-113 loss against the Phoenix Suns on November 17, he scored 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for another double-double.
Kuzma received the Western Conference, Rookie of the Month award for games played in October and November. He played in 20 games and scored 16.7 points per contest, shooting 50.4 percent overall and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc. He was the only rookie in NBA history to start the season with at least 330 points, 120 rebounds, and 30 made three-pointers.
In the first month of his career, he was just the sixth non-lottery pick to win the prize. He ended Houston’s 14-game winning streak on December 20 by scoring a career-high 38 points on 70% shooting in a 122-116 victory.
He became the first Lakers rookie since Jerry West in 1961 to score 25 or more points in three straight games when he scored a team-high 27 points in the next game, a 113-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors. He participated in the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2018 NBA All-Star Weekend, and after the campaign, he was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
On October 22, 2018, in a 143-142 overtime defeat against the San Antonio Spurs, Kuzma recorded a season-high 37 points. On January 9, 2019, he defeated the Detroit Pistons 113-100 while scoring a career-high 41 points. He was chosen once more for the Rising Stars contest, where he finished with a game-high 35 points to win MVP honors.
On August 10, 2020, Kuzma finished a 25-point performance by hitting the game-winning three-pointer to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 124-121 victory over the Denver Nuggets. In the finals, he lost to the Miami Heat 115-104 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals while scoring a playoff-best 19 points, which was a career-high.
With their 17th NBA title, the Lakers tied the league record by winning the series 4-2. Kuzma extended his deal with the Lakers for three years and $40 million on December 21, 2020.
Washington Wizards (2021–Present)
Kuzma was acquired by the Washington Wizards on August 6, 2021, as part of a package deal for Russell Westbrook. On November 10, 2021, Kuzma hit two three-pointers in the final 30 seconds of the fourth quarter of a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers to give the Wizards a 97-94 victory.

Kuzma recorded his first triple-double in a 113-112 win over the Brooklyn Nets on February 10, 2022, scoring 15 points, adding 13 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.
On January 11, 2023, Kuzma defeated the Chicago Bulls 100-97 with 21 points and the game-winning three-pointer. In the following game, a 112-108 loss to the New York Knicks, Kuzma recorded a season-high 40 points, along with seven rebounds and seven assists.
