Hogan has creative talent. Thanks to her husband’s prodding, she went to art school and graduated with a BFA in painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008 and an MFA in the same field from American University in 2010.
Hogan’s abstract landscapes in Sumi ink on Korean Hanji paper have been exhibited nationally and internationally. In July 2017, she had an art show at the Ocean City Center for the Arts, where she displayed twenty-seven abstract landscape paintings, the proceeds from which were given to art therapy programs for children with cancer.

Late last year, Hogan established an art therapy program through her Yumi C.A.R.E.S. Foundation at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. In May and June of 2019, the University of Maryland University College Arts Program showcased her work in an exhibition, describing it as fusing the landscapes of Maryland and Korea.
Despite becoming the First Lady of Maryland, Hogan has not stopped teaching at her alma college, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where she earned her BFA.
