Born on January 19, 1984, Darryl Raynard Richardson III is a rapper from the United States who goes by the name Lil Scrappy. Producer and musician Lil Jon saw Richardson play at a bar in their shared hometown of Atlanta and quickly signed him.
Lil Scrappy was one of the first artists signed to Lil Jon’s BME Recordings, along with fellow pioneers Trillville. Through his many mixtape releases, Richardson has earned a solid name in the Atlanta hip-hop scene and a dedicated fan base across the Southeastern United States.

Lil Scrappy Earlier Years
On January 19, 1984, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was born Darryl Kevin Richardson II. Unfortunately, Lil Scrappy’s dad, Darryl Sr., abandoned the family before he was born. After he and his siblings were orphaned, his mother took them in and reared them, sending them to a military school in California.
When he was nine years old, Scrappy started creating song lyrics, and by the time he was a teenager, he was rapping and drawing large audiences of his friends from the neighborhood to watch him perform. At initially, Scrappy’s music was a grass-roots initiative. He created his own mixtapes and CDs, which he peddled at garage sales and strip joints. Soon he was playing for the teenagers of Atlanta at Club Legacy.
Lil Scrappy Career
While playing at Atlanta’s Club Legacy, Lil Scrappy caught the attention of BME Recordings executive Vince Phillips and producer/performer Lil Jon. After that, Lil Scrappy was one of the first artists signed to BME Recordings, which is owned by Lil Jon.
He dropped “The King of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil Scrappy” in 2004. The album had a “split release,” with tracks by Trillville on one side and those by Lil Scrappy on the other. The album eventually peaked at position #12 on the Billboard 200.
Released in 2006 on BME Records, Reprise Records, and G-Unit Records, Lil Scrappy’s debut album Bred 2 Die, Born 2 Live featured contributions from 50 Cent and other artists. Lil Jon himself, as well as rap heavyweights like 50 Cent and Three 6 Mafia, made guest appearances on the album he produced.
He had some success with his first single, “Money in the Bank,” which featured Young Buck and peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was Lil Scrappy’s second top 30 single, and it became his biggest solo hit. To date, Lil Scrappy’s “Money in the Bank” has been his most commercially successful track in the States.
Lil Jon produced this album that featured guest appearances from 50 Cent, Three 6 Mafia, and other rap heavyweights. The album’s second song, “Gangsta Gangsta,” also features Lil Jon. Third from “Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live” came “Oh Yeah (Work),” which featured E-40 and Sean Paul (now simply Sean P.).
The second album of Lil Scrappy, titled “Prince of the South,” was released on May 13, 2008. Real Talk Entertainment handled the album’s distribution. Disturbing Tha Peace signed Lil Scrappy in April of 2009. Scrappy had already tried his hand at acting, and now he was in the middle of filming the hip-hop thriller “Just Another Day.”
After filming completed, he was supposed to begin a tour in support of his fourth studio album, titled “Tha Grustle.” However, the record was put on hold indefinitely in late 2011 at the earliest. After announcing his departure from Disturbing the Peace, Lil Scrappy said in 2012 that Bonzi Records would release the album.
Lil Scrappy Private Matters
From 2008 till 2011, Lil’ Scrappy was engaged to Diamond Carpentero. He dated co-star of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta Erica Dixon for a while, and the two of them have a daughter named Emani. For many years, the couple’s relationship was on-and-off due to Lil Scrappy’s numerous affairs.
Even though he was dating Shay Johnson for a spell, many of their admirers believed there was still romantic chemistry between him and Dixon. The pair remains devoted to co-parenting their daughter and creating the best environment they can for her.
Adiza “Bambi” Benson became Lil’ Scrappy’s wife in 2017. Breland, their first child, was born in September of 2018. The news of their second pregnancy came out in February of 2020.
