A crime was committed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, who promised to investigate the flights of migrants transported to Sacramento, which Florida Governor Ron DeSantis arranged.
“I know one was on the basis of all the interviews and all the facts that are now evidence,” Newsom told Jacob Soboroff of “TODAY” in an exclusive interview airing Thursday morning, adding, “Now we have to prove it.”
“Now, who’s ultimately accountable and responsible? I mean, the buck should stop with Ron DeSantis and the games he’s playing,” said Newsom, a Democrat. “But it’s the folks on the front lines that were doing the dirty work. And that’s ultimately what we have to determine, is where the culpability lands and resides.”
The conflict between two powerful governors on opposite ends of the ideological spectrum has escalated, and Newsom’s words have only fueled the fire.
Newsom, a rising star in the Democratic Party who is frequently mentioned as a possible 2020 presidential candidate, has attαcked DeSantis on various issues, from firearms and ab0rtion to education and Disney.
On Tuesday, Florida admitted that DeSantis’ administration was responsible for the uncoordinated use of two private planes to transport groups of migrants to Sacramento. The two aircraft landed on Friday and Monday, carrying around three hundred refugees.
On Monday, Newsom tweeted at DeSantis, calling him a “small, pathetic man” and implying that he might be prosecuted for kidnapping.
.@RonDeSantis you small, pathetic man.
This isn’t Martha’s Vineyard.

Attorney General Rob Bonta of California, a Democrat like the president, tweeted, “State-sanctioned kidnapping is immoral.”
Soboroff questioned Newsom about whether or not DeSantis should be afraid of being arrested by California authorities during his upcoming fundraising trip to the state. Newsom said that was “hyperbole” but that there was “potential” criminality.
“They’re human beings used as pawns for a guy’s political advancement. That’s pretty sad and pathetic,” Newsom stated.
“This is California — fourth- or fifth-largest economy on planet Earth,” he remarked. “We mean business. And so Ron DeSantis should know that.”
On Tuesday, a Florida’s Division of Emergency Management spokesman confirmed that the migrants had voluntarily traveled to California.
The statement added, “Through verbal and written consent, these volunteers indicated they wanted to go to California.”
According to the statement, “As you can see from this video, Florida’s voluntary relocation is precisely that — voluntary,” a contractor was there to ensure the migrants’ safe transfer to an independent humanitarian group.

In his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, DeSantis has been focusing aggressively on immigration to attαck Trump.
DeSantis’ decision to secretly transport fifty migrants, most of them from Venezuela, from Texas to the liberal haven of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts last year drew much attention and criticism. The flights were made possible by a February bill passed by the Republican-controlled Florida legislature.
After conducting an investigation into the event on Martha’s Vineyard, a Texas sheriff announced on Monday that he was proposing that a local district attorney bring criminal charges; it was unclear who would be charged.
