The current season of Overwatch 2 has the potential to be the most successful in the game’s history. The long-awaited PvE content arrived in Season 6, along with a strong new Hero in Illari, and a whole lot more besides. However, as is customary in live-service games, participants are already looking ahead to the next update.
Season 7 of Overwatch 2 is now under development, and like Season 6, it promises to be epic. There will be significant rebalancing, a brand new playable area, and maybe some pleasant surprises along the road. Before Season 7 of Overwatch begins, here is a complete guide to the upcoming events.
Overwatch 2 Season 7: Release Date
The official Season 7 teaser for Overwatch 2 has set the release date for the new season’s release as October 10.
Overwatch 2 Season 7: Hero buffs & Nerfs
Like previous seasons, Season 6 of Overwatch introduced a number of balance changes, including both boosts and nerfs. What we do know is that Blizzard has plans to completely rework Sombra. “Sombra has a few small changes coming next season, but in Season 7, she’ll debut her larger rework – complete with a new ability!” —Aaron Keller, Lead Level Designer on the game, in an interview.
Key nerfs for popular heroes like Zarya, Orisa, and Torbjorn will be announced in a blog post on September 22. More substantial changes are coming to Mei and Zenyatta as well, most notably to their freeze and Discord effects.
Overwatch 2 Season 7 New Control Map: Samoa
Blizzard’s perspective on OW2 seasonal upgrades has been stated for some time. Each each season will feature either a different Hero or a different terrain as its main attraction. Season 6 was an anomaly since it added a new Hero, new maps, and a new game mode all at once.
With Season 7, we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming, with a single new map on the horizon. A new Control map, this one taking place in Samoa, is now available for download.

On September 26, it was announced with a single teaser shot of the lively setting before the full revelation on October 1. While specifics of the new map’s design remain unknown, it hasn’t prevented fans from making wild assumptions. Some have speculated that the release of this new map all but guarantees Mauga’s long-awaited appearance; nevertheless, that remains to be seen.
Overwatch 2 Season 7: Halloween Event
Season 7’s release date coincides with Halloween, therefore the tradition will very sure continue this year. The Halloween event of 2023, titled Rise of the Darkness, is a crossover with Diablo 4, and it transforms Blizzard World into a horror-themed version of itself for the holiday.
