Pokusevski Injury: Aleksej Pokusevski’s lower-body injury sustained during last Tuesday’s home game against the San Antonio Spurs is expected to keep him out for several weeks, dealing the Oklahoma City Thunder yet another brutal injury blow (via Tim MacMahon of ESPN).
Thunder has announced that Aleksej Pokuevski has a non-displaced tibial plateau fracture in his left leg and will be assessed again in 6 to 8 weeks.
Aleksej Pokusevski took the field for two minutes against the Spurs before leaving the game due to injury. In that game, he had three points, a rebound, and a block. Pokusevski has been producing well for the Thunder this year, so losing him—even temporarily—hurts them. Pokusevski is averaging 8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game in the 2022–23 NBA season.
With the addition of Aleksej Pokusevski and rookie Chelm Holmgren to the sidelines, the Thunder’s frontcourt is suddenly even more stretched. After an injury to the 2022–23 season, Holmgren was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign before he even participated in his first NBA regular-season game.
The Thunder would have liked to have seen more of Aleksej Pokusevski as part of his development, even if the team did not enter the season with expectations of even contending for a position in the NBA playoffs. Given his raw skill set and length combination, Poku remains an intriguing project for Oklahoma City. Still, if properly developed, he may become a fantastic weapon for the Thunder.
The Thunder will attempt to fill the vacuum left by Aleksej Pokusevski in the interim by giving Mike Muscala and Darius Bazley additional playing time. Keep yourself updated with all the latest news from our website Newswatchlist.com and get all the recent updates.
