Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from Burbank, was officially censured by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, a rare action taken in retaliation for his pivotal involvement in the first impeachment of then-President Donald Trump.
Along party lines, the House resolution charged Schiff with “misleading the American public” during a congressional investigation into potential ties between Russia and Trump’s campaign and his involvement in the impeachment process.
On the House floor, Schiff defended himself, seemingly taking satisfaction in his ability to enrage Republicans and bring about such a “sham resolution.”
“You honor me with your enmity. You flatter me with this falsehood,” Schiff remarked. “You, who are the authors of the `Big Lie’ about the last election must condemn the truth-tellers, and I stand proudly before you. Your words tell me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy, and I am grateful.”
To my Republican colleagues who introduced this sham resolution: You honor me with your enmity.

He continued to criticize Republicans, claiming that they are to blame for spreading untrue information about the 2016 presidential election.
“Why are you not standing beside me, the subject of a similar rebuke for speaking the truth? Why did you not stand up to Donald Trump?” He queried. ” … Will it be said of you that you lacked the courage to stand up to the most immoral, unlawful and unethical president in history, but consoled yourselves by attacking those who did?”
House Democrats frequently screamed “Shame” in unison after the measure passed.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, filed the censure resolution. She insisted it was not a “partisan act” but a “clear vote between right and wrong.” Luna first proposed the solution last week, but it received little support. Some significant revisions were made to her resolution on Wednesday, most notably eliminating a proposed $16 million punishment.
