His severe wounds, the worst of which was a shattered knee that required surgery, were treated in a hospital. He escaped the blazing car when the collision caused it to veer off the road and onto a grassy verge.
According to a source, he reportedly unbuckled himself to run moments before the vehicle tumbled down the hill and burst into flames.
When Richard was injured, he watched a car race in St. Gallen. At the time, he operated a Rimac Concept One, an electric car with a speed of almost 200 mph.

Richard Hammond, who was filming for The Grand Tour Season 2 on Amazon Prime, was involved in a catastrophic crash after completing the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland in a Rimac Concept One, an electric supercar developed in Croatia, but he thankfully avoided severe harm.
He apologized to his wife and girls from his hospital bed. Richard admitted that he believed he would pass away following the collision, comparing the situation to being “inside a tumble dryer full of bricks.”
“It was the largest collision I’ve ever seen and the most frightening, but unbelievably, and happily, Richard seems OK,” his co-star Jeremy Clarkson remarked.
How Many Other Crashes Has Richard Hammond Had?
Richard is well known for being in a close call in 2006. In a Top Gear episode, Hammond was prepared to drive a jet-powered vehicle up to 288 mph.
After a few practice laps to get comfortable with the car, the front left tire failed on his final drive, sending him flying off the course. Then, after being taken to the closest hospital, he had brain injury treatment, which included being put into an induced coma.
The father of two eventually admitted that the tragic tragedy had caused him brain damage, which caused him to undergo melancholy, paranoia, and memory loss.
Hammond made light of the fact that he crashed several of his first motorbikes as a teenager during a Grand Tour episode recorded in Whitby, Yorks.
He fell from a motorcycle in 2017 while in Mozambique in southern Africa. After crashing off his bike and hurting his head, he was unconscious.
He eventually found himself unconscious on the road in a far-off part of the nation. Clarkson later acknowledged that “he [Hammond] did hurt himself fairly seriously,” despite Hammond’s initial assurances to the contrary.
