Squid Game wasn’t just a Korean hit, but it made waves worldwide. However, the finale ended on a cliffhanger, giving fans hope for a Squid Game Season 2. But the fact that typical Korean shows do not usually have more than one more season has the fans on edge. Luckily Hwang Dong-Hyuk has plans of continuing with the series. Hwang revealed in an interview that he is currently talking about the second season of the Squid game with Netflix. And not just the 2nd season, but he has also proposed for the 3rd season. Which means that he does have the storyline. All he needs is a green light from the streaming site. “There will indeed be a second season,” adding: “It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”
Lee Jung-Jae has also talked about the possibility of the second season. He even went as far as predicting the storyline of Squid Game Season 2. In the finale, Gi-hun decides to go to the same place where the whole Squid Game originated. He seemed very furious in the ending scene which shows that whatever he’ll do next will be impulsive. But was this ending intentional? Most likely it was because the script was so superior that the writer had full trust in it going viral. And now that it has become famous the creators can expand the Squid Game universe.
Lee Jung-Jae said in an interview: “I have no idea what will happen or the scale of it, but the only thing [Hwang] did tell me was that Seong Gi-hun is going to be in the show again, and he’s going to be playing in the arena again.”
He is also excited to read more about the script of Squid Game Season 2. According to him, the upcoming season will be full of twists because without them there will be no fun. Hwang has still not spoken up about the plot of Squid Game Season 2 and 3. Which is just making us more anxious. But hopefully, after the renewal news, we’ll get something substantial from him.
Has Netflix revealed anything regarding Squid Game Season 2 and 3?
Yes, in response to Hwang’s statements, they have confirmed that the writer and the streaming site are currently discussing the matter. They even mentioned Season 3. And as we all know, Netflix does not shy away from announcing the renewal news. Bridgerton was a huge hit and got 3 more seasons. Hopefully, the same fate will await Squid Game.
And it is not a surprise that Netflix is thinking about more than 2 seasons. Because Squid Game was a major hit, it has the potential of going even more enormous. Not only this, but the BTS Army is also anticipating Kim Taehyung’s involvement in the second season. The Gi-Hun actor even posted a picture with him. So, these rumours might be true!
As far as the cast of Squid Game, season 2 and 3 are concerned. We highly doubt that the characters from the first season will return. Because almost all of them died so we’ll get to see a lot of new faces in Squid Game Season 2 and 3. There is no guarantee that the second season will do as well as the first one. Because the element which made the first season so special might be missing from the second one. Hence we are sceptical about the third season. But it is still a far-fetched idea, so it is better to wait for the official authorities to announce any further progress regarding the project.
