The official cause of death of Suzanne Somers has been determined. According to a death certificate acquired by The Blast, Somers, 76, died of breast cancer that had spread to her brain. A biopsy was performed to establish the cause of death, but an autopsy was not performed.
The paper also lists high blood pressure and hydrocephalus, a neurological ailment characterized by an accumulation of fluid in the head, as contributors. Sadly, on October 15th, the former “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step” actor passed away in Palm Springs, California, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
After overcoming skin cancer and “severe hyperplasia” of the uterus in her thirties, Somers was diagnosed with breast cancer in her fifties. “Even when I was Chrissy on ‘Three’s Company,’ I had had cancer three times,” Somers told CBS News in 2020.
It was the day before her 77th birthday that she died away. Longtime publicist R. Couri Hay claimed, “She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” and that Somers died with her husband Alan Hamel, son Bruce Somers Jr. (age 57), and other close relatives at her side.
According to Hamel’s Page Six interview, Somers died with his hand in hers. “One of the things we talked about was that we knew that this day was coming,” he said.
“We thought it was going to be me [first] because I am 10 years older than her … It was a conundrum. I said, ‘If I pass, then you’ll be alone. I can’t imagine you being alone, there is no solution.’”
Hamel, 87, shared numerous images of himself and his wife, who he was married to for 46 years after they were together for 55 years, on Instagram the day following her death. “There are no words,” Hamel wrote.
“There are no actions. No promises. No declarations. We are one. I am in love with you, my beautiful Suzanne, for all of eternity. Alan.” Bruce Somers, Somers’ son, also shared an Instagram post in memory of his mother.
“She was a friend, a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entertainer, an icon, and a legend he wrote.” “But to me, she was just Mom. I had the privilege as the only person who could call her that. Growing up, it was us against the world. And then she took the world by storm.”
