American actress, novelist, singer, entrepreneur, and health advocate Suzanne Marie Somers (October 16, 1946 – October 15, 2023). Chrissy Snow in Three’s Company from 1977–1981 and Carol Foster Lambert in Step by Step from 1991–1998 were two of her most well-known roles on television.
Suzanne Somers Net Worth
At the time of her passing, American actress, novelist, and singer Suzanne Somers was worth an estimated $100 million. A day before her 77th birthday, Suzanne passed away on October 15, 2023. She had been battling breast cancer intermittently for well over two decades. In the late ’70s, Suzanne Somers shot to fame as Chrissy Snow on the hit NBC comedy Three’s Company.
Her famous performance on the show garnered her a Golden Globe nomination and established her as a pioneer in the field of television acting. At its height, the show was seen by 20 million people per week. The creators of the show increased her income to $30,000 each episode in preparation for the fifth season, which is discussed in greater depth further down in this article.
Suzanne notably stood her own and sought equal pay to that of her male co-star, John Ritter, who was making $150,000 per episode at the time. In addition, Suzanne wanted 10% of the show’s earnings. Unbelievably, the show’s creators ignored her pleas and killed off the character. Her acting career was momentarily derailed, she said thereafter, because of the disagreement.
Thankfully, Suzanne’s career morphed from that of a comedy actress to that of a writer, entrepreneur, and successful businesswoman. Suzanne’s success stemmed from her books about self-help, many of which focus on natural remedies. Additionally, her ThighMaster device has been responsible for over $100 million in sales.
Suzanne continued performing throughout her life, and she found fresh success in the 1990s as the lead of the family sitcom “Step by Step,” which aired from 1991 until 1998. Over the course of seven seasons, she was in 160 episodes.
Diagnosis of Cancer
In the year 2000, Suzanne was told she had breast cancer. Her physicians suggested chemotherapy, but she rejected it in favor of other treatments. As a first line of defense, she tried an Iscador mistletoe extract. She also underwent surgery to remove a malignant growth and then radiation treatment.
Many medical professionals have blasted Somers for promoting unorthodox methods of combating cancer. Suzanne Somers has a number of unconventional beliefs, including her rejection of water fluoridation and her advocacy for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for a wide range of female health concerns. Somers’ self-help books present many of these ideas.
Income From Thighmaster
Suzanne’s appearances in infomercials for the Thighmaster date back to the early 1990s. She didn’t actually own the product, but she apparently made a lot of money off of making it famous. The product’s success skyrocketed, and it eventually earned over $100 million in revenue. When the Direct Marketing Response Infomercial Hall of Fame was established in 2014, Suzanne was one of the first inductees.
Actual Property
Throughout her life, Suzanne amassed a collection of luxurious properties throughout Southern California. In 2008, Suzanne and her then-husband Alan put their 73-acre Palm Springs estate up for sale for $35 million. Since the 1970s, they’ve been the proud owners of this property.
Prices were cut by more than half from $29.5 million in 2017 to $14.5 million in 2018, and then again in 2019 to a mere $9.5 million. In 2020, as the price dropped, so did the amount of land included. Twenty acres were left of the original land. They agreed to take $8.5 million in May of 2021.
In 2018, they gave the Coachella Valley Conservation Commission 480 acres of land they had held in northern Palm Springs. They dropped $2.3 million for a Malibu mansion in 1999. They spent $2.35 million to purchase the next property in 2001. With the second acquisition, they boosted their oceanfront to an unbelievable 190 feet. In 2007, a fire wiped out the neighborhood.
Instead of rebuilding, Suzanne and Alan sold the two vacant lots in 2016 for $12.03 million. In due time, a lavish palace of around 5,000 square feet was constructed on the land. The new home went on the market for $40 million in late 2021. The asking price was recently cut to just under $30 million, but as of this writing, it has still not sold.
