The Ant-Man Quantumania Trailer Doesn’t Hold Back

Ant-Man Quantumania Trailer: Even though 2023 is just two weeks old, the first piece of Marvel Studios content has already been released. During a lopsided college football national championship on Monday night, the newest teaser for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premiered, giving viewers a better look at what will be the first movie of the MCU’s Phase 5 when it hits theaters on February 17. Also, the trailer gives away a lot.

The main antagonist of the next movie, played by Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, is mainly discussed in the first Quantumania trailer, which was released in late October. The sole close-up picture of his visage is saved at the end of the clip.

However, Kang takes center stage in the most recent pin. Kang begins the teaser by stating, “You’re an interesting man, Scott Lang.” You have a daughter and are an Avenger, but like me, you have lost a lot of time. We may support one another in that.

Like many Marvel trailers, the first offered little narrative details, choosing instead to reintroduce the Quantum Realm to viewers and tease Kang the Conqueror’s long-awaited appearance after the character’s soft launch as his variant He Who Remains in Loki’s season finale.

In that video, we also discovered that Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), although only a teenager, appears to have developed a method of interfacing with the Quantum Realm.

(With Peter Parker, Riri Williams, and Cassie Lang making up a trio of youthful super-genius characters, one is left to wonder: What is going on with the American educational system in the MCU, and who deserves a medal?) The Ant-Man family is in jeopardy, thanks to Cassie’s technical advancement, since they are all drawn into the Quantum Realm. Kang offers Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) a sinister deal that will send him and his family back to their home reality as the teaser concludes.

On the other hand, the most recent trailer seems to set out the entire plot in detail, including the essentials of the deal that Kang proposes and Scott blindly accepts. Kang offers the Avenger and his family much more than a ticket back to Earth in exchange for Scott bringing him something that might spark a multiverse war; Kang can even give him time itself.

Scott can’t decline the opportunity because he has missed so much time with his daughter that the actor playing her had to be replaced twice.

“I don’t care who this guy is. I just lost so much,” Scott says via voiceover as the on-screen images convey the years he lost with Cassie during the Blip. “He can give us a second chance.”

The Quantumania peek, nevertheless, goes even farther, disclosing the following information in no particular order:

  • That Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) tells Scott that Kang has the power to “rewrite existence and shatter timelines” as she urges him not to take the deal
  • That Scott takes the contract, and Kang doesn’t hold up his end of the bargain
  • Glimpses of what appears to be Kang’s base, the city of Chronopolis, from the comics, along with his iconic blue mask and how Marvel Studios has reinvented it for the screen
  • Our first look at the MCU’s take on M.O.D.O.K.

We also catch a glimpse of what appears to be the last fight between Kang and Ant-Man and possibly even Lang’s demise, in which the Avenger is pounded to a pulp and all but gives up on his chances of defeating the time-traveling bad guy by declaring, “I don’t have to win. Just one of us has to lose.

The most telling aspect of the most recent Quantumania trailer may be how heavily Kang the Conqueror is introduced and how the Multiverse Saga’s upcoming events are set up. Comparing Phase 4’s Multiverse Saga to the Infinity Saga, it sometimes felt aimless and disjointed.

Still, as the remainder of Marvel Studios’ schedule comes into view, Quantumania is building up to be a rapid course correction. Although the film’s title is Ant-Man and the Wasp, Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne has received very little attention in the two trailers.

In this one, Kang is given significant attention as he gathers an army while preparing for something much more potent than simply fighting the “Ant-Man.” A reference to the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is anticipated to be the sixth and final installment when it arrives in theaters in May 2025, is made in the promo, which also describes Quantumania as “the beginning of a new dynasty.”

The new Quantumania teaser may have some misdirections, similar to those for earlier MCU movies like Spider-Man: Far From Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it seems to provide more information in advance than Marvel usually does.

Given that Loki’s climactic appearance as He Who Remains gave the ongoing series one of Marvel’s most thrilling conclusions on the strength of riveting monologues alone, the film’s marketing team may be onto something, given that Ant-Man hasn’t exactly been the most memorable MCU franchise to date.

As the Avengers continue to replace the old guard with new members, it is still unclear whether Scott will survive Quantumania and whether Cassie will follow in his footsteps to become Stature as soon as possible.

However, when the third and maybe final Ant-Man movie comes out next month, we’ll get a clear idea of where the Loki and Avengers franchises are going and our first in-depth encounter with the Thanos-level antagonist who’s set to influence the course of the Multiverse Saga.
