It’s been two weeks now since Disney’s Ecanto was released. And although it isn’t earning as well as previously aired Disney movies, it is quite a hit for the post covid era. Another thing has added to its benefit, i.e. there have been no other releases since Ecanto hit the theatres.
The film has earned a total of $57.6 million after $12.38 million were added this week in its sales from venues across the US and Canada. Overall, there has been a decrease of 54% in the second week. But it’s not all bad news. This kind of a drop between the first and second week has been observed previously with other Disney movies like Moana (it had a drop of 50% between the first and second week). And when looking at the family-friendly movie, Ecanto, success in this time of the pandemic, the movie seems like a hit.
Other Movies on the Box Office
It’s just been a while since cinemas have opened. And this is why the box office is quiet. Besides Ecanto, House of Gucci and Ghostbusters: Afterlife have also cinemas and are doing quite well.
All these movies will be facing competition as some massive projects are lined up to release in December. The much-awaited West Side Story adaptation will be released on December 10, 2021, followed by Spiderman: No Way Home on December 17, 2021. Now, although these big budgets are releasing in theatres, it has been noticed that cinemas are not getting full, and people are still reluctant.
But it seems like film exhibitors are optimistic about the new releases coming soon. And are expecting a massive turnout shortly.
Ecanto- Still at the Top
For now, Ecanto is at the top of the box office for a second week in a row. It is then followed by Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Lady Gaga’s House of Gucci is taking third place, and in fourth place, we have Christmas With The Chosen: The Messengers by Fathom Events. We have yet to see how much more profit the movie makes and whether it can stay at the top once new releases hit the theatres.
When will Ecanto air on Disney Plus?
For now, the movie will be airing in theatres only. But after exactly 30 days of its release, Ecanto will be available on Disney Plus.
