Johnson had only played football for two years by the time he was in his senior year at Freedom High School. Still, the fact that he had excelled on a squad in a high school athletic division that was renowned nationally for producing a long list of professional and Olympic-level athletes, including future NFL stars Andre Reed, Saquon Barkley, Kyzir White, and others, caught the eye of NCAA Division I collegiate programs.
