One of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s biggest riddles was finally addressed in the most recent episode. In “The Eye,” Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) tells Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) that she has lost people in the fight against evil in the past as they become closer as they make their way out of the newly established land of Mordor. She dumps a bomb on us, a “celebomb,” if you will, because the other person mentioned is none other than her spouse, Celeborn, even though we all know she lost her brother, Finrod (Will Fletcher). Viewers were interested to see how this aspect of Galadriel’s past would be handled in the Prime Video series, and it appears that we are near now.
Who is Celeborn, and why hasn’t his name been brought up before? He has already appeared in numerous works of art, most notably the Peter Jackson film trilogy, where Marton Csokas portrayed him and frequently seemed to be next to Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel. They jointly held sway over Lothlórien and played a crucial role in supporting the Fellowship of the Ring in its Third Age conflict with Sauron. But their tale is more complicated than that.
Who Is Galadriel’s Husband In ‘The Rings of Power’?
Rings of Power has raised many mysteries and unanswered many significant queries fans have had since the beginning. Galadriel’s husband, Celeborn, is one such mystery. In Tolkien’s writings, he was already wed to the main character of the Amazon series during the Second Age of Middle Earth, but this relationship had not yet been brought up in the show—until now. She finally hints at Celeborn’s potential fate during her passionate talk with Theo in episode seven.
When Did Celeborn And Galadriel First Meet?
Early in the First Age, when Finrod and Galadriel were settling in the elf kingdom of Doriath, the couple first came into contact. They first met because Celeborn was related to King Thingol. In this period of history, that is all that is known about them.
Celeborn and Galadriel relocated to Lindon, the capital of High King Gil-galad, in the Second Age following the War of Wrath’s events and the Fall of Beleriand (Benjamin Walker). They were eventually established in Eregion, the home of Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), the lord of Elvensmiths, in S.A. 750 after moving to the Eriadorian region later. They already had a daughter named Celebran by that point. They lived close to Sauron because he worked with Celeborn to create the Rings of Power while disguising himself as his proper Elvish form, Annatar.
Centuries later, Galadriel would look for a way for Moria to cross the Misty Mountains and reach the Dwarven kingdom of Khazad-Dûm. Due to the death of Thingol, the former King of Doriath, who was killed in a battle with a gang of Dwarfsmiths over a necklace in the First Age, Celeborn refrained from following her. Yes, a chain. Celeborn decided to stay in Eregion as a result.
That was for the best because he was crucial in guiding Elven refugees when Sauron’s army assaulted Eregion. They successfully escaped to the valley of Imladris, where Elrond (Robert Aramayo) settled and established Rivendell. After some time, the family was reunited when Galadriel and Celebran relocated to Rivendell. When Elrond and Celebran married in the Third Age, they relocated again. (Yes, Galadriel is Elrond’s mother-in-law.) Only decades later would they relocate to Lothlórien and develop into the characters we are familiar with from literature and film.
Does Galadriel Have Children In ‘The Rings of Power’?
Celeborn and Galadriel also have a daughter, Celebran, who is not depicted in the movies. Later, Galadriel’s daughter weds Elrond, a lifelong companion of Galadriel, and has three offspring with him: twins Elladan, Elrohir, and Arwen. It is unknown if and when The Rings of Power will meet Galadriel’s husband and child. But they will probably be, just as they were in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films. Hopefully, it will be in The Rings of Power season 2, which will start production in the U.K. soon.
Is Celeborn Actually Dead?
Galadriel mentions Finrod and Celeborn when Theo asks if she has lost anybody in the conflict. She describes how she first met the youngster, recalls how he couldn’t fit into his armor, and adds, “I never saw him again after that.” That could be the case, but it hardly indicates that he passed away. She never implies that she knew his destiny before that time; she merely says that she “lost” him. She still speaks highly of him even though many years have gone after he left for battle, which was never addressed in Tolkien’s books.
Galadriel is currently experiencing a different stage of her life than she was when she lost Celebrimbor. She is a commander of the army of Lindon and was in charge of the hunt for Sauron in Forodwaith and the North, as well as the Nmenor forces’ assistance to the Southlands just before Mordor, annexed them. Theo’s surprise at learning that Galadriel was dancing when they first met is evidence that she is not the same Elf she was when they first fell in love.
Should Celeborn return, it would be interesting to observe how that would change in light of Galadriel’s friendship with Halbrand (Charlie Vickers). Although they have declared their emotions to one another, they are currently traveling to Gil-galad to find Elvish medicine for the recently crowned King of the Southlands. No matter what The Rings of Power’s season finale has in store for them, their relationship as friends or possible partners if Celeborn returns is unaffected. If he doesn’t, that would represent a significant departure from Tolkien’s original work and necessitate careful consideration of the implications for the story. A love triangle? We’ve seen Human and Elf couples before. That would be novel.
