The Atlanta Hawks chose Williams as the fifth overall choice in the 2006 NBA Draft. Shelden Williams was selected as the NBA Rookie of the Month for April 2007. But in February 2008, the Hawks dealt Mike Bibby to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Williams.
