Paul George Career: What Is Happening In His Personal Life?

Paul George Career: One of the top two-way basketball players in the NBA has consistently been Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers. He is a star all-around who is particularly well-known for his defense and three-point shooting.

George developed to become the Indiana Pacers’ top player early in his career as they assembled one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. He had a significant leg injury while working out with the US Men’s Basketball national team, but he recovered well, kept up his impressive play, and was chosen for both All-Star and All-NBA teams.

In 2017, Indiana exchanged George for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He joined Russell Westbrook in the NBA for two seasons before being sold to the Clippers for a significant haul of players and draft picks.

Who Is Paul George?

The son of Paul George and Paulette George, George was born in Palmdale, California, in Los Angeles County. He had two elder sisters, Portala, a volleyball player at CSU-San Bernardino, and Teiosha, a basketball player at Pepperdine.

George grew up supporting the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers and adored Lakers player Kobe Bryant. George played basketball with his older sister Teiosha or spent most of his leisure time at the park.

He scored 23.2 points per game on average while leading Knight to a championship during his senior year. George decided to play college basketball at Fresno State despite only receiving a three-star recruiting rating.

College Career (Fresno State)

George had a solid start at Fresno State, scoring 14 points in his first game and tallying a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds in his next. In the Western Athletic Conference, he placed second in both thefts and three-point shooting that season while starting all 34 games.

George was named to the All-WAC Second Team during his sophomore year. When they faced the eventual conference winners, the New Mexico State Aggies, he once again finished second in the conference in steals and recorded a college career high of 30 points. George declared for the 2010 NBA Draft following his sophomore campaign.

NBA Career

The Indiana Pacers selected Paul George as the 10th overall choice in the 2010 NBA Draft. He put on numerous impressive shows as a rookie, including a 23-point game with five three-pointers and the Pacers’ top steals-per-minute rate. He was selected for the All-Rookie second team due to his performance.

He was chosen to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest and Rising Stars Challenge during the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend the following season after starting all 66 games in the lockout-shortened season. The Miami Heat defeated the club in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

George had a breakthrough season in 2012–2013. He averaged 17.6 points per game, notched his first triple-double of his professional career, won the Most Improved Player award, and was selected for the NBA All-Star squad and second-team All-Defensive.

Some people believed the team led by Paul George and Roy Hibbert could defeat the Miami Heat after he put on multiple good postseason performances. Still, Indiana fell again in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Before the start of the 2013–14 season, George agreed to a maximum contract extension. The Pacers lost to the Miami Heat in the playoffs after having another outstanding regular season that began with a 9-0 record. George was selected for the First Team All-Defense and Third Team All-NBA. During a Team USA scrimmage in the summer of 2014, George suffered a terrible leg injury.

He was expected to miss the entire 2014–2015 campaign. However, he was able to participate in Pacers games in April 2015. George recovered his pre-injury form the following year, earning spots on the All-Star squad and Third Team of the All-NBA.

It was widely known that George wanted to depart the Indiana Pacers during the 2016–17 season. It was a risk for Oklahoma City to trade for him because he just had one year left on his deal, and he was believed to seek a move to the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, George’s first season with the Thunder was a success, evidenced by multiple regular-season and postseason performances of at least 30 points. In the summer of 2018, he decided to leave the Thunder. Despite suffering from injuries in the second half of the season, he played even better the following year on both sides of the court and came in third in the MVP voting.

The Thunder obtained a sizable trade package from the Clippers for George in 2019 when Kawhi Leonard pressured them to get a second star before joining them. Before the season was halted, George averaged 21 points per game in 42 games with the Clippers.
