Despite having a difficult 2015 due to injuries, Watt still started many games and performed well. He had groin surgery in 2016 to treat a sports hernia. He had surgery for a herniated disc later that year. He again underwent back surgery after playing many games in 2016, which rendered him ineligible for the remainder of the campaign.

He rejoined the team in 2017 but was later forced to leave the game owing to a shattered leg. Once more, following surgery on his leg, Watt was declared out for the remainder of the campaign.

Watt returned to the starting lineup in 2018, recording 16 sacks and surpassing his previous high-performance standards. But eight weeks into the 2019 season, he sustained a torn pectoral that would terminate his season. JJ joined the team once more in 2020 and carried on where he left off, scoring his first touchdown since 2014.

From the time he was four years old until he was thirteen, Watt played ice hockey, competing in events as far away as Canada and Germany. He claimed to be a goal scorer and to have played “mainly as a center.”
