Volkswagen ID.7 Electric Sedan Debuts At CES 2023!

Volkswagen ID.7 Electric Sedan Debuts At CES 2023: From the ID.3 hatchback to the ID.6 three-row SUV, buyers in markets outside the US can walk into a Volkswagen dealership and drive out in any number of electric vehicles. Americans aren’t as fortunate; the ID.4 compact is our sole option and the ID. Buzz van is on the way. However, a sedan version of the third ID family member will soon be offered in America!

This week at CES in Las Vegas, the Volkswagen ID.7 makes its camouflaged debut and joins VW’s US lineup. Although the final production body is hidden by what VW is referring to as “digital camouflage,” the magnitude and scope of this announcement mark the first time the automaker has formally introduced the ID.7 nameplate.

The ID.7 utilizes the same modular electric drive matrix platform (MEB) as the Volkswagen Group’s entire line of electric vehicles. However, it is not as small as ID.4. The ID.7 expands to a length of 194.5 inches, with a wheelbase of 116.9 inches. This EV is now a little more than three inches longer than the Arteon, and VW says that the additional length will result in a big and luxurious cabin.

“With the new ID.7, we are extending our electric model range into the upper segments,” said CEO Thomas Schafer. “The sedan will offer top-class technology and quality.”

The ID.7 boasts a new 15.0-inch touchscreen, illuminated touch sliders, an augmented reality head-up display, and even digitally controlled air vents that automatically alter in-car temperatures based on how hot or cold it is outside as part of VW’s attempt to update its interior technology. The ID.7 will also feature voice controls that can be activated by saying “Hello, Volkswagen.”

Unfortunately, purchasers won’t be able to purchase the fantastic “digital camouflage” that covers the ID.7’s exterior, but it is intriguing. There are at least 40 layers of paint on it. To provide a unique light show, 22 different regions of the car are electrified beneath the top coat of paint using electroluminescence.

But most of the ID.7’s final design cues are still hidden under that camouflage. Check out the ID. Aero concept from 2022 for a better sense of what the finished product will look like. That idea should accurately depict how ID.7 will appear when it is on the market.

While the price and battery size are still unknown, VW estimates that the ID.7 will have a range of about 435 miles (700 kilometers) on the forgiving WLTP European cycle. Using the EPA scale, that range value will, of course, be lower in the US. Along with North America, VW will sell the ID.7 in China and Europe.
