This evening in County Cavan, a horrific collision between a car and a lorry claimed a young man’s life.
A male in his 20s driving the car was ki!!ed in the fatal collision on Thursday just before 5 o’clock.
The accident occurred on the N3 at Ballyjamesduff, at New Inns. Due to the need for forensic investigators, the road is currently closed and is anticipated to stay overnight.
No additional passengers were in the vehicle, and the lorry driver was unharmed.
Gardai is looking for any dashcam footage or witnesses on the N3 at New Inns between 4.30 and 5.15 p.m.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry that occurred shortly before 5pm on Thursday 4th May 2023 on the N3 at New Inns, Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan.
“The driver and sole occupant of the car involved (male, 20s) was fatally injured during the course of this collision.”
“No other serious injuries to persons was reported.”
“The N3 at New Inns is currently closed and is expected to remain closed overnight. Local diversions are in place. The services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested.”
