Frances Tiafoe Jr. is a professional tennis player from the United States. He was born on January 20, 1998. He had an early interest in tennis and became the youngest winner of the Orange Bowl boys’ singles title at the age of 15.
At the age of 17, Tiafoe made history as the youngest American to ever compete in the main draw of the French Open after turning pro in 2015. He had great success as a youngster, reaching 9 finals and 4 championships on the ATP Challenger Tour and winning the US Junior National Championship.

As a result of his reliability, Tiafoe has risen to the top of the tennis world rankings. In 2016, he entered the ATP’s top 100 for the first time. At the 2018 Delray Beach Open, he won his first of three ATP championships and made history as the youngest American male to ever win an ATP Tour event.
On June 19, 2023, Tiafoe peaked as the world’s No. 10 singles player, and on November 1, 2021, he peaked as the world’s No. 160 doubles player. On June 19, 2023, he made history by becoming the first American of Sierra Leonean descent and just the third Black American male to crack the top 10 of the ATP rankings.
Both the 2023 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston and the 2023 Stuttgart Grass Court Championships were victories for Tiafoe. After wins against Marcos Giron, Jason Kubler, a qualifying Alejandro Tabilo, and Cameron Norrie at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open, he advanced to the semifinals, marking his first time at that level.
In May of 2023, Tiafoe, seeded 12th, advanced to the third round of the French Open before losing to Alexander Zverev, seeded 22nd. After defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in the 2023 BOSS Open championship match, Tiafoe made history on June 19 by cracking the top 10 for the first time in his career.

They’ve been together since 2015, but they really met when they were both young tennis players. A year after becoming pro, Tiafoe was ranked as one of the world’s top 100 tennis players. Broomfield, meantime, was busy on the professional circuit, where she rose to 467th in the world in women’s doubles.
Tiafoe and Broomfield have spent the majority of their relationship on opposite ends of the country due to their busy occupations (and frequently clashing schedules). Broomfield earned a degree in women’s studies from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2020. She eventually landed in Los Angeles, where she worked on her professional career while cheering on Tiafoe in his tennis ambitions.

In 2022, Tiafoe made history by being the first Black American man to reach the US Open semifinals since Arthur Ashe in 1972. By June 2023, he had risen to the ranks of the world’s top 10 players. A carousel of screenshots commemorating Tiafoe’s various achievements throughout the years played as Broomfield marked the occasion.
“TOP 10 IN THE WORLD!” she wrote in a celebratory Instagram post. “I started taking screenshots of different moments and accomplishments a few years ago in anticipation of this day. I can’t post them all but I think this tells the story pretty well. I am so proud of you.”
