Sofía Vergara has confirmed that the divorce was caused by Joe Manganiello’s wish to start a family. “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” the actress, 51, recently told El País.
“I feel it’s not fair to the baby.” Although the “Modern Family” actress “respect[s]” those who choose to have children later in life, she has decided that this is “not for [her] anymore.”
She added that she is prepared to be a grandmother, not a mother, because she had a son named Manolo Gonzalez Vergara with her first husband, Joe, when she was 19 years old; Manolo is now 32 years old.
“I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things,” she said, adding, “When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”
