Demi Moore updated her followers on the current situation with her ex-husband Bruce Willis and spoke about her upcoming show “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” during her appearance on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday.
During an interview with “GMA,” Moore discussed Willis, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia last year, saying, “I think, given the givens, he’s doing very well.”
“What I’ll say is what I say to my children, which is it’s important to just meet them where they’re at and not hold onto what isn’t,” she continued, “because there’s great beauty and sweetness and loving and joy out of that.” After Moore wed Willis from 1987 until 2000, the couple had three kids together: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.
“Ghost” star also opened up about her portrayal of “Feud” season 2 character Ann Woodward, calling her real-life counterpart “complicated” and having “a very tragic life.”
After shooting and killing her husband, banking heir William Woodward Jr., at their house in 1955—which she allegedly believed was an intruder—the radio actress and socialite Woodward earned the nickname “Bang Bang” from novelist Truman Capote. She was later cleared by a grand jury that believed her story that the shooting was an accident; she was not indicted for the crime.
Woodward took her own life in October 1975, not long after Esquire released parts from Truman Capote’s unfinished work “Answered Prayers” in 1975. Many believed that the excerpts revealed details of Capote’s high-society female acquaintances’ lifestyles.
The story of “Ann Hopkins,” a character in Truman Capote’s novel, sparked widespread rumors and curiosity due to its depiction of a wife who murders her husband. “I think there’s great responsibility when you are stepping in to play a real person,” Moore told “GMA” on Wednesday. “It was important to me to kind of honor the truth as much as possible.”
“Ann lived a life that was a lot of rejection. The family rejected her that she married into,” she continued. “No matter how good, she never lived up to anybody’s standards. She just never fit that social stratosphere.” Tom Hollander “had probably the biggest job” on the series and “so embodied the essence of Truman,” according to Moore, who also lauded him for his portrayal of Truman Capote.
“I think his performance is a revelation, and he was such a joy,” she added. “Most of my scenes were with Tom, and when we finally had a scene that was less contentious we were like, ‘Oh, it’s so nice. We’re not being mean to each other.'”
The actress from “St. Elmo’s Fire” went on to praise her little dog Pilaf, describing her as “the greatest gift that I have ever been given.” “She’s like my little extra heart,” she raved. “She’s just magical. She has something magical about her.”
