The 95th Academy Awards are now taking place. Whether this is your bag or not, tonight is the night the most prominent stars walk the red carpet in their most stunning outfits, sit in their seats, and possibly even ascend the stage. Of course, timepieces are also in evidence.
Authentic, some watches you’ll see tonight are connected to specific brands, but that’s parred for the course. Yesterday, our Style Editor Malaika Crawford discussed the “pay to play” issue in Hollywood’s watch industry while imagining an ideal red carpet scenario.
“While I’m sure we won’t see anything quite as risky as classic Cher in a custom Bob Mackie costume, I spent today browsing through the top Oscars looks of all time in preparation for the event. I’m hoping for some absolute fashion statements, with a heavy dose of watch spotting.
Michelle Yeoh has the edge in my book for the night’s best watch statement.” Hope the front-runner for Best Actress doesn’t fail to deliver for the MC (Spoiler Alert: She did. See underneath. Michelle Yeoh looks stunning with a Richard Mille RM07-02.
Being die-hard watch enthusiasts, we genuinely relish evenings like this. While we transmit pictures of different celebrities back and forth to determine what they are wearing, Hodinkee’s Slack channel is operating at total capacity. We do this out of passion, so you don’t have to.
It should be a thrilling night. There were watches in Tàr, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Top Gun Maverick, a Porsche Design chronograph that was historically significant, Babylon, Avatar 2: The Way of Water, and The Fableman’s, to name a few. Nevertheless, none of those movies are up for a watch-related award.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be any watch-related items at the actual awards show tonight. Presenters will enter Rolex’s renowned green room (get it?) before entering the stage, as is custom. Also, the green space is unique and very Rolex, as you can anticipate—the Rolex Green Room’s front door.
Take a look at the Rolex Green Room. But enough chitchat; we need to find watches. So look at the pictures below and stay tuned because we’ll update this story if any late-breaking watch crazy arises. Ke Huy Quan, an Oscar winner, is holding a lucky Omega Globemaster.
