Elvis Presley Birthday: What Was The Cause of His Death?

Elvis Presley Birthday: Elvis Presley was born on January 8, the first day of the year. Even though he was frequently told he couldn’t sing, he eventually rose to fame as one of the greatest vocalists and musicians in American history. Many Americans visit Graceland, Presley’s former home in Memphis, to honor the man and his life.

Early on Sunday, friends, family, and followers of Elvis Presley gathered at Graceland to celebrate the rock icon’s 88th birthday. A ceremonial cake cutting and an announcement from Shelby County and the City of Memphis were part of the annual celebration, overseen by Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley.

The 30-minute ceremony drew a massive audience of Presley fans to Graceland’s front lawn; this number was undoubtedly boosted by the success of the Baz Luhrmann movie “Elvis,” which will be released in 2022.

Jack Soden, CEO of Elvis Presley Enterprises, welcomed the group. I’ve been coming here every year for many years so that I can say with some authority,” he remarked. “This is unquestionably the largest crowd we’ve ever had. You come from all over the world … and we love you for being here.”

Before managing partner of Elvis Presley Enterprises Joel Weinshanker spoke, Glen D. Hardin, the longtime pianist for Presley’s TCB band, and Alton Mason, who portrayed Little Richard in the Baz Luhrmann film, made brief cameos.

One of Presley’s career aspirations, according to Weinshanker, “was to be in an amazing movie, with an amazing director, and be part of an amazing film. And I think we did that for him this year.”

When introducing Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, he continued, “Graceland is perhaps the most renowned house in the world, and there is only one person whose house it is.”

Huge shouts from the audience greeted Lisa Marie Presley, dressed in a long black coat and sunglasses. “I’m grateful. It has been some while. You were missed. I keep telling you that you’re the only one who can get me to leave my place. We love you, Lisa Marie,” shouted the crowd in response to her statement.

“I love you back, and that’s why I’m here. Today, [Elvis] would’ve been 88 years old; it’s hard to believe. I think that he’d be proud. This year has been incredible. The movie is incredible, I’m very proud of it, and I hope you are too,” Lisa Marie Presley said. “But it’s so moving how you come from all over the world every year. It’s moving to me and my family… so thank you.”

Lisa Marie Presley and executives from Elvis Presley Enterprises unveiled a cake with an “Aloha from Hawaii” pattern in celebration of the famed 1973 satellite music event commemorating its 50th anniversary as the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to close the ceremony.

Graceland continued the celebrations of Presley’s birthday on Sunday by formally opening the “The Making of ELVIS” exhibition, a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Baz Luhrmann’s movie that crams props, drawings, annotated scripts, 18 character costumes, and other items into a 3,000 square foot space. The current schedule calls for the exhibition to run through Labor Day.

What Was Elvis’ Net Worth?

When Elvis passed away in 1977, his net worth was $20 million (actually, it was $5 million because inflation had not yet been factored in). Elvis was an American singer, musician, and actor. The most successful solo artist in history is him.

This musical pioneer, credited with popularizing Rock ‘n Roll, transcended genre barriers to become a cultural icon and usher in a new era. Due to his renown, people typically refer to him as “Elvis” or “The King” instead of his last name.

Elvis had a successful musical career and appeared in many films and TV series. At the time, his provocative appearance and manner were very divisive, particularly given their sexual overtones. Although the “King of Rock ‘n Roll” may appear mild-mannered by today’s standards, he contributed to the early labeling of rock music as “Devil’s Music.”

Record Deal With RCA

For $40,000, Elvis agreed to a record deal with RCA in 1955. Elvis’ debut album, which included songs like “Blue Suede Shoes,” was released in 1956. Elvis had changed the Rockabilly single into something new, more akin to a genre that would later be known as Rock n’ Roll, even though this smash was a version of a Carl Perkins song.

Elvis’ stage antics at this period in his career attracted criticism, attention, and controversy. The performer’s suggestive hip movements were seen by many as “a new low” for popular music, and influential people in the media industry deemed him “unfit for family viewing.”

What Was The Cause of Elvis Presley’s Death?

According to Memphis medical examiner Jerry Francisco, the initial cause of Presley’s death was cardiac arrest, even though an autopsy performed the same day Presley passed away was still ongoing. He said that “drugs played no role in Presley’s death” when asked if drugs were a factor.

According to Guralnick, “drug use was substantially linked” to Presley’s demise. He may have experienced “anaphylactic shock brought on by the codeine pills he had obtained from his dentist, to which he was known to have had a slight allergy,” according to the pathologists conducting the autopsy.

Two lab findings were submitted two months later, and both hinted that polypharmacy was the leading cause of death. One of the reports stated that Elvis had “fourteen medicines in his system, ten in significant quantity.” After reviewing the data in 1979, forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht concluded that Presley had died accidentally due to a combination of drugs that depressed the central nervous system.

Michael Baden, a forensic historian and pathologist thought the situation was complex: “Elvis had a protruding heart for a very long time. His death was brought on by both those things and his drug addiction. However, it was a judgment call because he was hard to diagnose.”

Two vital medical professionals engaged had their skills and morals significantly questioned. Before the results of the toxicology tests were available, Francisco provided a cause of death and stated the underlying illness was cardiac arrhythmia. This condition can only be diagnosed in a person still alive and denied the involvement of drugs in Presley’s demise.

There were many claims that a cover-up had occurred. Although George C. Nichopoulos, Presley’s primary doctor, was cleared of criminal responsibility for the singer’s death in a 1981 trial, the following facts were shocking: “In the first eight months of 1977 alone, he had [prescribed] more than 10,000 doses of sedatives, amphetamines, and narcotics: all in Elvis’ name.”

His driving privileges were revoked for three months. Following fresh accusations of overprescribing from the Tennessee Medical Board, it was permanently canceled in the 1990s. Keep yourself updated with all the latest news from our website Newswatchlist.com and get all the recent updates.
