From 1992 to 1999, Shoichiro Toyoda, a famous Japanese businessman, served as the chairman of both Toyota Motor Corporation and the influential Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren).
Toyoda directed Toyota to give clearance for producing the Prius hybrid and the Lexus moniker.
He was the son of Sakichi Toyoda, the creator of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, and Kiichiro Toyoda, the man behind Toyota Motors. Akio Toyoda, his son, is the current CEO of the Toyota Motor Corporation.
