Atlanta Rapper Gunna Released From Jail After Pleading Guilty In YSL RICO Case!

Rapper Gunna from Atlanta was let out of jail on Wednesday after entering a guilty plea to a racketeering charge, while his attorney claims that he still maintains his innocence.

The artist, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, has been detained in Fulton County, Georgia, since May after being accused of conspiring to break the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), a statute designed to fight organized crime. Among the 28 defendants listed in the May indictment were Kitchens and Young Thug, an Atlanta rapper whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams. The charge said that the Young Stoner Life record company members were members of the Young Slime Life, or YSL, a Bloods-affiliated gang.

The Washington Post received confirmation from Kitchens’ lawyer, Steve Sadow, that Kitchens had submitted an Alford plea on Wednesday, in which the defendant admits guilt but maintains his innocence. According to Sadow, Kitchens received a five-year sentence with one year suspended and credit for time already served.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said that several of the defendants in the case may receive life sentences when she announced the indictment in May, adding that “in my judgment, violence in our community warrants maximum penalties.”

Kitchens might have received a sentence of five to twenty years had his case gone to trial.

Kitchens claimed in a statement sent by his counsel that when he first joined YSL in 2016, he “did not consider it a ‘gang,’ ” rather viewing it as a “collection of guys from metro Atlanta who had common interests and artistic objectives.”

In the statement, Kitchens noted that he has not been working with the prosecution and has not consented to testify for or against any other parties involved in the case.

In his statement, he said, “I have decided to put an end to my own RICO case with an Alford plea and put a stop to my agony by openly confessing my affiliation with YSL.

According to Kitchens’s plea agreement, he must perform 500 hours of volunteer work. He will speak to young men and women about the dangers and immorality of gangs and gang violence, as well as the degeneration that it brings about in our communities, for 350 hours, according to Sadow.

In addition, Kitchens is forbidden under the deal with the prosecution from owning guns and from getting in touch with any other defendants unless it goes through his legal team or the record company.

An inquiry for comment made late on Wednesday went unanswered by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office.

Gunna, a two-time Grammy nominee, has collaborated with Young Thug numerous times, most recently on the famous song “Pushin P” earlier this year, which peaked in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Both rappers’ song lyrics and music videos were used as evidence in the 88-page May indictment, a practice that has drawn criticism from other musicians.

Kitchens’ legal team stated in a May motion that it was “very troubling” that the state’s accusations were based on song lyrics. These lyrics represent an artist’s expression of creativity rather than a literal account of events.
