With an average of 16.3 million viewers tuned in for each episode of season 2, Euphoria ranked second on HBO after Game of Thrones. And since the second season’s conclusion last year, fans have been clamoring to learn whether a third season will be produced.
The drama centers on Zendaya‘s character Rue Bennett, a high school girl who lives in the made-up city of East Highland, California. While the other members of her friend circle deal with their problems with love, money, social media, and body image, she is a suffering drug addict.
Since the show’s debut, it has naturally attracted a sizable fan base, and now those people demand more. So, will there be a third season of Euphoria? While the show’s second season was aired, a third season of Euphoria was announced, much to the delight of fans.
Even if the next season is a long off, fans will see more of their favorite characters. The stunning conclusion of the last season has left viewers wondering where the tale will head. So, this is what we currently know about the forthcoming Euphoria season.
When Will Euphoria Season 3 Be Available?
A third season of Euphoria was confirmed via an Instagram post published on February 4th, 2023. A brief video clip in the message offered supporters optimism that the group’s tale was not over.

Additionally, Collider revealed via Production Weekly that HBO would start filming this month (February). This suggests that a new season may debut sooner rather than later for the audience. Zendaya did, however, hint that it would be some time before viewers saw the group reunited on film once more.
Donni Davy, head of the makeup department, further corroborated this by saying that it typically takes one month to film an episode. Therefore, production would end in November if the third season runs the same duration as the first two.
According to specific fan theories, the third season may premiere as early as the second half of 2023. But it’s vital to remember that post-production will still be necessary even if the show finishes filming this year. Therefore, the first half of 2024 would be a more attainable timeline for its release.
For the third season, neither an official poster nor a trailer has been made available. But these will likely both be available in the following months.
Which Cast Members Will Return For Season 3 of Euphoria?
Zendaya has already announced Rue Bennett’s third-season return. This came about due to rumors and fan hypotheses that Rue’s character would die after the previous season.
Fortunately for fans, this is not the case, as it would be extremely challenging to kill off the show’s protagonist when a new season is just around the corner. The other notable cast members will return to their positions in the upcoming season. This includes:
- Hunter Schafer as Jules
- Jacob Elardi as Nate
- Alexa Demie as Maddy
- Algee Smith as Chris
- Sydney Sweeney as Cassie
- Maude Apatow as Lexi
- Dominic Fike as Elliot
Regrettably, Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed Kat in Euphoria for two seasons and was a fan favorite, won’t be back for the third season. It is unknown if her character will be eliminated from the show or if a replacement actress will fill it.
Even if it wouldn’t be the end of the world if another actress replaced Barbie, it is still challenging to imagine someone else doing the role correctly. Fans have also conjectured that Barbie’s departure from the group was brought on by her rivalry with Sam Levinson, the show’s creator.
In an interview, the actress clarified this, saying that rumors frequently get exaggerated for media attention. Ferreira affirmed that the two only occasionally crossed paths over minor issues; it was undoubtedly not as significant as some have made it out to be.
Sydney Sweeney discussed her theories about Cassie’s fate in season two in a different interview. After reading the last season’s screenplay, she acknowledged that she had the impression that her character would be killed off. This was for the moment she and Nate were driving, and she had her torso partially out the window.
Sydney admitted she was “very disappointed” because it seemed like a tragic situation at the time. Later, though, it was a carefree moment where Cassie had fun. The source of these emotions must be found; perhaps this will be her lot in the upcoming season.
Fans also want Colman Domingo, who portrayed the sage Ali in the show, to come back. He appears to be returning to his role in the show, and maybe the following season will go more into his backstory.
Tom Holland expressed interest in the program, while Zendaya indicated he wants a more significant role after talking with Sam Levinson about a possible cameo.
What Is The Storyline For Season 3 of Euphoria?
A major confrontation between Maddie and Cassie took place on stage during Lexi’s Our Life performance to quickly recall the events that took place at the end of Euphoria season 2. This happens after Cassie’s breakdown over the play’s events and her continuous relationship with Cassie’s ex, Nate.
The two experienced a severe fallout, which will likely be further examined next season. Even if there is a reasonable probability that the best friends will mend fences, Sydney Sweeney may have hinted at a more serious conflict between the girls.
According to Sweeney, Cassie witnessed a darker aspect of her character as Euphoria season two ended. She concentrated on Cassie’s statement during the previous season, in which she claimed to be “crazier than Maddy.”
The actress went on to say that it’s likely Cassie would embrace a darker age in the name of love. The character might investigate where this will take her and whether this might be the end for her persona, as Sweeney predicted as early as season 2.
Then came Nate and Cal’s climax to their narrative. Nate decided to report his father to the police, making all his interactions taped public knowledge. This, fortunately, does not include Jules’ tape, which Nate gave her earlier in the season.
Because Nate’s character also experienced a minor breakdown during Lexi’s play, it is unclear where this will take him in the upcoming season.
Also, a significant plot aspect in season two was Cal’s relationship with and affection for Derek. Will this be another strand of the tale that is investigated? And what if Cal ends up in jail? How would that work?
Last but not least, fans were horrified by the sad conclusion of Fezco and Ashtray. The cops invading the kind drug dealer’s home played a significant role in the final episode’s dramatic conclusion.
After Custer, Faye’s lover told the police about Mouse’s murder, this occurred. Then, in a tragic turn of events, the cops stormed into the home where Ashtray had barricaded himself in the toilet and started firing as Fez was getting ready to see Lexi’s performance.
Fez attempted to disarm the SWAT squad before they started shooting and to shift the blame to the kid, but the police showed no mercy and started shooting at Ashtray.
Angus Cloud discussed what he believed season 3 had in store for the character, saying that while he would play Fezco again, he was unsure what to anticipate from the storyline.
Fans also wonder what Lexi’s response will be when she learns about Fez’s fate after their budding romance. Colman Domingo also commented about the third season, saying that he and Sam Levinson had sat down and spoken about the direction everyone will be heading in.
He admitted that he had no idea what Levinson had in mind, but he did say that the showrunner would make “huge swings” with the plot and the ensemble. Only time can determine whether this is a good or negative thing.
